Press Release
A Wallflower At The Robotics Orgy?
Fanuc Corporation (FANUC) (OTCPK:FANUY) just doesn't fire the imagination like the robotics companies pumping out weekly press releases about their latest highest-tech applications do. What too many robotics-are-cool, great-story, neat-concept investors are looking for in a robotics company? What might be the considerably more interesting story, if only we are willing to learn more about it. FANUC (an acronym for Fuji Automatic Numerical Controls โ Fujitsu spun it off decades ago) is not in the artificial intelligence business. And at an ETF I like for the broadest exposure to the field of robotics, Robo-Stox Global Robotics and Automation (ROBO), FANUC is only the 11th largest holding, well below UAV maker AeroVironment (NASDAQ:AVAV) and Roomba vacuum cleaner marketer iRobot (NASDAQ:IRBT).
Facebook now uses Caffe2 deep learning for the site's 4.5 billion daily translations
Facebook announced today that it has started using neural network systems to carry out more than 4.5 billion translations that occur each day on the backend of the social network. Translations carried out with recurrent neural networks (RNNs) were able to scale with the use of Caffe2, a deep learning framework open-sourced by Facebook in April. The Caffe2 team today also announced that in part due to work done around translation, the framework is now able to work with recurrent neural networks. "Using Caffe2, we significantly improved the efficiency and quality of machine translation systems at Facebook. We got an efficiency boost of 2.5x, which allows us to deploy neural machine translation models into production," the Caffe2 team said in a blog post.
Alexa can find 'baby making' music on Amazon's streaming services
Amazon announced today that users of its streaming service Prime Music, which is free with a Prime membership, and its subscription-based Amazon Music Unlimited can now ask Alexa to find tunes appropriate for various activities. As of now, over 500 different activity-based requests are supported including music for meditation, partying and even "getting pumped." The new feature is available immediately to users with Alexa-enabled devices. The new voice controls were geared towards activities that have been requested most often by Alexa users and listeners of Amazon's music streaming services. In the announcement, the company said that 27 percent of all activity requests come from users who want to relax.

Robotic Process Automation Market to Reach $5.1 Billion by 2025
Robotic process automation (RPA) is a family of technologies designed to replicate human actions in order to complete a task or series of tasks. Unlike traditional programming constructs, RPA is designed to allow everyday workers to quickly deploy virtual counterparts to learn from and mimic the actions they use to accomplish routine tasks, therefore freeing the worker to handle more complex, and in some cases, more fulfilling work activities. According to a new report from Tractica, the market for RPA is developing rapidly, and the market intelligence firm forecasts that worldwide revenue in the sector will increase from $151 million in 2016 to more than $5.1 billion by 2025. The key industry sectors that are embracing RPA implementations include financial services & banking, utilities & telecommunications, retail & commercial, and healthcare & insurance. The market opportunity for RPA will be largest in Europe during the forecast period, with Asia Pacific and North America not far behind.
Facebook translations now rely entirely on neural networks - SiliconANGLE
With more than 2 billion users, Facebook Inc. has to deal with dozens of different languages on its social network, which poses a bit of a barrier to the company's new mission to "bring the world closer together." Facebook hopes that artificial intelligence will be the answer to this problem, and today the company announced that its translations now rely entirely on cutting-edge neural machine learning. In a blog post published today, Facebook researchers Juan Miguel Pino, Alexander Sidorov and Necip Fazil Ayan explained just how hard it is to deal with so many languages. "Creating seamless, highly accurate translation experiences for the 2 billion people who use Facebook is difficult," they said. "We need to account for context, slang, typos, abbreviations, and intent simultaneously."
