Amazon's cashierless 'Just Walk Out' tech is coming to Whole Foods stores

Engadget

After launching it in Go stores and then bringing it to larger Fresh supermarkets, Amazon's cashierless "Just Walk Out" tech will soon arrive in two Whole Foods locations. The service, which lets you pick up goods from shelves and (yep) just walk out, is coming to new stores in Washington DC and Sherman Oaks, California next year, the company announced. "By collaborating with Amazon to introduce Just Walk Out shopping at these two Whole Foods Market stores, our customers will be able to... save time by skipping the checkout line," said Whole Foods co-founder John Mackey. As we've detailed previously, Just Walk Out uses computer vision, sensors and AI to let you walk into a store, sign in with an app, fill up your bags and leave without the need to join a checkout line. On top of using the tech in its own Go and Fresh stores, Amazon signed a deal last year to license its technology to third-party retailers.

Top 100 Artificial Intelligence Startups to Lookout for in 2021

#artificialintelligence

Sooner or later, the concept of digitization will completely take over all repetitive tasks. Today, with the help of big data, advanced technologies like automation, artificial intelligence, IoT, and machine learning are leveraging unimaginable amounts and types of information to work from. It is streamlining tedious, repetitive, and difficult tasks, which tend to slow down production and also increases the cost of operation. Owing to the evolution of technology, artificial intelligence startups are mushrooming like never before. The companies are driving the world into a new phase of digitization with a mixture of disruptive statistical methods, computational intelligence, soft computing, and traditional symbolic AI. Artificial intelligence is the combination of two amazing concepts namely science and engineering. With the infusion of disruptive trends and human intelligence, intelligent machines and intelligent computing programs are emerging. Slowly, the flare of innovations moved away from IT and entered into diverse industries including healthcare, education, finance, marketing, business, telecommunication, etc. Organizations realized that by digitizing repetitive tasks, an enterprise can cut the cost of paperwork and labor which further eliminates human error, thus boosting efficiency. Automating processes involve employing artificial intelligence solutions that can support digitization and deliver data-driven insights. Artificial intelligence startups emerge as a ready-made solution provider that supports every company's individual needs. AI startups in 2021 use big data to sophisticated AI models and leverage new solutions that could better serve customers. Analytics Insight has listed the top 100 artificial intelligence startups that are driving the next-generation development in technology. It democratizes the way investments are done by bringing sophisticated elite trading technology to laymen. Accrad is a health tech company that assists radiologists to reduce their workload with the precision of artificial intelligence. Radiologists work under different circumstances and deadlines and might find diagnosis through x-rays a bit difficult. Therefore, Accrad has come up with a futuristic solution to help with accurate and fast image diagnosis. The company has made x-ray processing more convincing and simpler. Its signature product CheXRad, a deep learning algorithm that identifies locations in the chest radiograph has the capability to predict 15 different diseases including Covid-19. Affable.ai is a data-driven influencer marketing platform where customers can find relevant and authentic influencers and manage marketing operations. By using cutting-edge computer vision algorithms on social media posts, the company delivers actionable insights about micro-influencers and their audience. Cerebras Systems Announces World's First Brain-Scale Artificial Intelligence Solution

#artificialintelligence

WIRE)--Cerebras Systems, the pioneer in innovative compute solutions for Artificial Intelligence (AI), today unveiled the world's first brain-scale AI solution. The human brain contains on the order of 100 trillion synapses. The largest AI hardware clusters were on the order of 1% of human brain scale, or about 1 trillion synapse equivalents, called parameters. At only a fraction of full human brain-scale, these clusters of graphics processors consume acres of space and megawatts of power, and require dedicated teams to operate. Today, Cerebras announces technology enabling a single CS-2 accelerator--the size of a dorm room refrigerator--to support models of over 120 trillion parameters in size.

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) becomes more mainstream, environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations are a key part of ensuring responsible adoption

TORONTO and LONDON, Aug. 20, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) reveal in a new report the pressing need for the accountancy profession to make the necessary connections between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its relationship to environmental, social and governance (ESG) dimensions. Polling over 5,700 respondents globally, including an expert panel of ACCA members across North America, the research reveals a cautious tone, with fewer than half (43%) believing that the impact of AI on their rights as an individual is positive – such as safety and personal security, levels of fairness, levels of choice, levels of transparency. In North America, 30% of respondents believe this to be the case. ACCA and CA ANZ say in Ethics for sustainable AI adoption: Connecting AI and ESG that accountants, with their explicit and long-standing commitment to ethical practices, are well placed to guide organizations along a responsible path for AI adoption. Jillian Couse, Head of ACCA North America says: 'Our findings present a wake-up call for the accountancy profession to lead the way and become the super connectors needed to ensure an ethical approach.
