JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY โ With the push of a button, a perfectly healthy 34-year-old museum-goer named Ugo Dumont was transformed into a confused 85-year-old man with cataracts, glaucoma and a ringing in his ears known as tinnitus. Dumont had volunteered at Liberty Science Center on Tuesday to don a computer-controlled exoskeleton that can be remotely manipulated to debilitate joints, vision and hearing and shared with the crowd what aging feels like decades before his time. Headphones muffled his hearing while goggles left him with only peripheral vision due to macular degeneration while the suit's joints were adjusted to simulate the stiffness of rheumatoid arthritis. The 40-pound (18 kg) suit also gave Dumont a taste of the weight gain people typically experience as they age. "Wow," Dumont gasped as he struggled to walk on a treadmill facing a video titled "Walk on the Beach."

"The Next Rembrandt," as it's been dubbed, was the brain child of Bas Korsten, creative director at the advertising firm J. Walter Thompson in Amsterdam.

And yet his newest masterpiece was unveiled only yesterday. By scanning and analyzing Rembrandt's works, a computer was able to create a new painting in near-perfect mimicry of Rembrandt's style. It has been named, appropriately, 'The Next Rembrandt'. The Next Rembrandt project began when, in October 2014, the Dutch financial institution ING spoke with J. Walter Thompson Amsterdam advertising agency about creating a project that would show innovation in Dutch art.
AI Defeats European Champion At The Board Game Go: World Champion Lee Sedol Is Its Next Opponent
Google's AlphaGo AI swept all of its five matches against European Go champion Fan Hui. Now, the team behind the deep-learning program is preparing for AlphaGo's upcoming match against world champion Lee Sedol in March. After soundly beating the reigning European Go champion, Google's AI computer is looking to go head-to-head with one of the best players in the world in a match set to be held in South Korea in March. In a study featured in the journal Nature, researchers from Google's London-based AI company DeepMind described how their AlphaGo program was able to win all five of its Go matches against the European champion Fan Hui. Go, a board game that was invented in China some 2,500 years ago, involves having players alternately place white and black "stones" on a grid consisting of 19 vertical and 19 horizontal lines.
Nvidia Places Bet on Artificial Intelligence With New Chip
Nvidia Corporation has built a new deep-learning chip, the Tesla P100, with 15 billion transistors for deep-learning computing. The Santa Clara technology firm is betting that its computer graphics expertise will aid in making a name for itself in artificial intelligence and virtual reality. CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said that it is the biggest chip ever made. The company also unveiled a machine that uses the chip to perform scientific computing at extremely high-speed. PC World reports that the American technology company's new massive chip packs numerous cutting-edge technologies such as second-gen high-bandwidth memory; the tech firm's own Pascal GPU architecture; 16nmFinFET transistors; and Nvidia's blazing-fast NVLink interconnect technology.
