Intel hardware contains previously unknown flaw making it possible to steal computers' data

A recently discovered vulnerability baked inside Intel hardware allows hackers to intercept important data inside one's computer, say security experts. The flaw, discovered by the security firm, Positive Technologies, was revealed late last month at a Black Hat conference in Singapore and shows how bad actors can exploit a feature called the The Visualization of Internal Signals Architecture (VISA) to scrape a computer's memory for sensitive data. By gaining access to VISA, which is used to test chips before they're released to the public, hackers can leverage the system to monitor information happening inside a machine's controller hub -- a set of computer chips that controls aspects of the CPU and more -- say analysts at Positive Technologies. According to security experts, an Intel chipset flaw allows hackers to scrape your computers most important information. 'We found out that it is possible to access Intel VISA on ordinary motherboards, with no specific equipment needed,' said Positive Technologies expert, Maxim Goryachy, in a statement.

According to the company, Google Tulips, available only on April 1, allows users to communicate with one of world's most beloved flowers -- the tulip -- to ascertain just what exactly is on their minds. 'Decoding the language of plants and flowers has been a decades-long challenge. But that changes today,' reads the company's statement on its farcical new service. In a video for the April Fool's gag, plants are shown beckoning for more water, sunlight, and even providing a source of conversation for an elderly woman.

That's because in each phase of flight -- take off, landing, cruising and maneuvering -- the ideal wing parameters vary. Until now, we've made do by modifying rigid wings with hinged surfaces. But imagine if the entire wing could change shape -- that's what researchers led by NASA and MIT are working towards. In a paper in the journal Smart Materials and Structures, the research team explains how it has radically redesigned the airplane wing.

Businesses and nonprofits are finding novel ways to employ artificial intelligence in the developing world, using the tools to improve agriculture yields, infant health care, and entrepreneur earnings, according to speakers at MIT Technology Review's EmTech Digital conference in San Francisco on Tuesday. Solomon Assefa, who oversees IBM's research labs in Kenya and South Africa, said the company has been using AI to more accurately predict crop yields in specific regions, based on shifting weather patterns, soil moisture, and other conditions. This insight into growing conditions has helped local farmers raise financing to expand their operations, or make better decisions about the right seeds, appropriate fertilizer, and ideal times to plant and harvest. Separately, the tech giant's research lab has partnered with a startup, Hello Tractor, that links farmers in need of tractors with owners looking to lease equipment. By forecasting demand for the vehicles, IBM has also helped owners raise money to expand their fleet, boosting their profits, Assefa said.
