Multi-node environment strategy for Parallel Deterministic Multi-Objective Fractal Decomposition
This paper deals with these problems by using a new decomposition-based algorithm called: "Fractal geometric decomposition base algorithm" (FDA). It is a deterministic metaheuristic developed to solve large-scale continuous optimization problems [5]. It can be noticed, that we call large scale problems those having the dimension greater than 1000. In this research, we are interested in using FDA to deal with MOPs because in the literature decomposition based algorithms have been with more less success applied to solve these problems, their main problem is related to their complexity. In this work, the goal is to deal with this complexity problem by keeping the same level of efficiency. FDA is based on "divide-and-conquer" paradigm where the sub-regions are hyperspheres rather than hypercubes on classical approaches. In order to identify the Pareto optimal solutions, we propose to extend FDA using the scalarization approach. We called the proposed algorithm Mo-FDA.

Healthcare researchers have been exploring the use of artificial intelligence to help diagnose post-traumatic stress disorder by analyzing a patient's speech and to help treat anxiety and depression. Could AI replace a psychiatrist's role in providing mental health care? Most psychiatrists don't see AI making their jobs obsolete, according to a recent survey from Sermo, a social platform for physicians. Sermo teamed up with psychiatry and health technology researchers at Duke University School of Medicine and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School to query nearly 800 psychiatrists in 22 countries about the potential benefits and risks of using AI and machine learning in mental health and the impact on the field of psychiatry. Only 4% of psychiatrists believe AI will be able to replace, not just assist, human doctors in performing complex psychiatric tasks.

In recent years, machine learning has been proving a valuable tool for identifying new materials with properties optimized for specific applications. Working with large, well-defined data sets, computers learn to perform an analytical task to generate a correct answer and then use the same technique on an unknown data set. While that approach has guided the development of valuable new materials, they've primarily been organic compounds, notes Heather Kulik Ph.D. '09, an assistant professor of chemical engineering. Kulik focuses instead on inorganic compounds--in particular, those based on transition metals, a family of elements (including iron and copper) that have unique and useful properties. In those compounds--known as transition metal complexes--the metal atom occurs at the center with chemically bound arms, or ligands, made of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, or oxygen atoms radiating outward. Transition metal complexes already play important roles in areas ranging from energy storage to catalysis for manufacturing fine chemicals--for example, for pharmaceuticals.

Replicant raises $7 million for conversational AI system for contact centers - SiliconANGLE
Artificial intelligence startup Replicant Inc. today said it has raised $7 million in seed funding for its customer relationship-focused voice response technology and appointed a former executive from contact center unicorn Talkdesk Inc. as chief executive. The San Francisco-based company said its automated assistant can carry on complex and detailed conversations with customers with response times that approximate those of a human agent. The product of two years of development, the software integrates with customer relationship management systems from Salesforce.com Inc. and Zendesk Inc. for automatic call summarization and can be customized to take actions according to a company's policies. "We spend time with customer and managers, listen to calls and understand the calls they don't like," said new CEO Gadi Shamia, former chief operating officer of Talkdesk. "Those are calls where we perform best."

Apple workers have stopped listening to Siri queries worldwide, the company said this week. Apple plans to bring back human reviews of Siri voice recordings at some unspecified date, but the company said it will only review them when customers specifically opt in to the practice. Separately, Google today confirmed that it recently "paused" human reviews of Google Assistant queries worldwide. Apple's decision to stop having humans listen to Siri queries follows a report last week that contractors who review the recordings for accuracy heard private discussions and even sexual encounters. Apple calls the human reviews of Siri recordings "grading."

Why don't you tell us a little bit about your background, and what you did before starting Affectiva and what the genesis of the idea? I did my PhD at Cambridge University, focusing on machine learning, and computer vision. Early on in my career, I recognized that technology's becoming really pervasive. It has a lot of IQ, a lot of cognitive intelligence, but it has literally no emotional intelligence at all. As I'm sure you know from both your personal and your professional life, EQ matters. Our emotional intelligence predicts how persuasive we are, how likable we are, our ability to motivate other individuals. I believe that that's true for technology that's interacting with us on a day to day basis.
