Kotak Mahindra Bank's Keya, India's first voice bot in the banking sector, handles more than a million interactions every month and successfully recognises the intent behind 70 per cent of all calls. Similarly, 120 bots deployed at ICICI Lombard General Insurance handle about 90 per cent of policy issuance in near real-time.

An artificial intelligence system that generates realistic stories, poems and articles has been updated, with some claiming it is now almost as good as a human writer. The text generator, built by research firm OpenAI, was originally considered "too dangerous" to make public because of the potential for abuse. But now a new, more powerful version of the system - that could be used to create fake news or abusive spam on social media - has been released. The BBC, along with some AI experts, decided to try it out. The model, called GPT-2, was trained on a dataset of eight million web pages, and is able to adapt to the style and content of the initial text given to it.

The top acclaimed United States Book publishers are suing Audible, an Amazon subsidiary over machine learning feature. The machine learning feature transcripts audio allowing users to read the book along with the narrator. The Big 5 Publishing houses are Penguin Random House, Macmillan, HarperCollins, Hachette, and Simon & Schuster. Audible is using the feature along with audio recordings however if looked from the perspective of publishers, the physical book and ebooks have separate licenses. While Amazon company has not obtained a license or permission to reproduce the written version of these books. The Big 5 including Chronicle Books and Scholastic have filed a case in the Southern District Court of New York.

Chinese AI firm Megvii Technology, backed by Alibaba, has filed in Hong Kong to conduct an IPO targeting proceeds of at least $500 million, two people said, just as the city faces political unrest and its first recession in a decade. Beijing-based Megvii, widely known for facial recognition platform Face, may raise as much as $1 billion in the initial public offering, said one of the people, who expect the share sale in the fourth quarter of the year. The filing comes as companies postpone or slow down listing plans in a recession-bound city blighted with nearly three months of anti-government protests, and where the benchmark Hang Seng share price index fell to seven-month lows this month. Reuters reported last week that China's biggest ecommerce firm, Alibaba Group, had delayed its up to $15 billion Hong Kong listing. Megvii has decided to press ahead with its IPO plans because it has little business in Hong Kong and expects the unrest to ease later this year, said a third person.

The UK Department for Transport is planning to make use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the future to end holiday jams resulting from roadworks. Navigational apps powered by the disruptive technology, which will be developed to implement the same, are expected to help drivers to plan their trips. The apps are expected to give drivers the confidence to plan their key trips without the fear of getting stuck in traffic, apart from reducing congestion, delays and air pollution. The department said that the government will be opening up data on planned changes to the road network, showcasing possible traffic jams up to months in advance. This change in policy is expected to help motorists enjoy quicker and easier getaways on bank holidays in the near future.
