Artificial Intelligence: competitive advantage for financial institutions - Shield Financial Compliance

#artificialintelligence

The rise of financial technology has drawn the attention of regulators to FinTech firms and how they function. FinTech companies like any other regulated institutions are required to comply with a growing set of regulatory rules. One of the latest examples is the FCA's roll-out of Secure Customer Authentication (SCA) for e-commerce transactions. This will mean that card issuers, payments firms, and online retailers will have to follow more stringent authentication steps for European online payments over €30. However, the real regulatory pain for FinTech's is felt when scaling fast whilst entering new markets. Catering to new obligations from different jurisdictions places further regulatory scrutiny on their operations, ensuring that they are compliant with the various nuances of different regulators' rules.

AI Could Use EKG Data to Measure Patients' Health - 24x7 Magazine

#artificialintelligence

Soon, physicians may be able to apply artificial intelligence to electrocardiogram (EKG) data in order to measure overall health status, according to new research published in Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology, a journal of the American Heart Association. While it's known that a patient's sex and age could affect an EKG, researchers hypothesized that artificial intelligence could determine a patient's gender and estimate their'physiologic age'--a measure of overall body function and health status distinct from chronological age. Using EKG data of almost 500,000 patients, a type of artificial intelligence known as a convolutional neural network was trained to find similarities among the input and output data. Once trained, the neural network was tested for accuracy on the data of an additional 275,000 patients by predicting the output when only given input data. "While physicians already consider whether a patient'appears [their] stated age' as part of their baseline physical examination, the ability to more objectively and consistently assess this may impact healthcare on multiple levels," says study author Suraj Kapa, MD, assistant professor of medicine and director for Augmented and Virtual Reality Innovation at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

These 5 Companies Are Using AI And Data To Improve Experiences

This article is part of our collection about the 2019 state of IT. A CIO has always been busy running the IT and computer systems that support an enterprise. Now with artiificial intelligence (AI) turning every company into a data company, a CIO's job is more central and more complicated than ever before. A recent Gartner survey found that some of the world's biggest companies plan to double the number of AI projects within the next year, with four AI efforts already in place on average. Additionally, companies plan to spend more on AI, in the neighborhood of $77 billion in 2022, up more than 3x from the $24 billion spent in 2018, according to IDC.

Drone tech to help in rescue & relief ops

#artificialintelligence

NEW DELHI: A team of students at IIT Madras has developed a drone technology that can help in rescue and relief operations, especially after natural disasters. "The solution is beta-ready and can be deployed. It is currently being tested and would reach the commercialisation phase within six months," said Ayush Parasbhai Maniar, student member, UAVs for Disaster Management, Centre for Innovation (CFI) -- Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras. "The iterations to improve every feature would continue. The team's artificial intelligence (AI)-based solution is used in combination with drones that use swarm intelligence to collect data and analyse it in real-time. The project is being executed with data inputs from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The drone, or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), will have a software that will be compatible with standard drones available in the market. "Thus, for the physical drone we would be partnering with a drone company," Maniar said. This IIT team has also won. 10 lakh in funding from the Indian Innovation Growth Programme (IIGP 2.0) University Challenge, a programme conducted by the department of science and technology along with global defence manufacturer Lockheed Martin Corporation and Tata Trusts. "This solution is based on innovation based on futuristic disruptive technologies.

Researchers launch and retrieve drones from a boat to photograph humpback and minke whales in the Western Antarctic Peninsula. BEAUFORT -- The swift pace of technological development has given researchers tools that can collect more data in less time and with fewer resources than a decade ago. Lightweight tags with long-lasting batteries can track animals as small as insects and measure the conditions around them. DNA sequencing technologies have decoded the genomes of thousands of organisms from the loblolly pine to the black bear. Drones can quickly photograph landscapes and animals in locations that may be inaccessible or unsafe for people.
