Airbus to Use AI in Designing FCAS Flight Control Software - Avionics
At the 2019 Paris Air Show, Dassault Aviation showed a mockup of the FCAS sixth generation fighter jet for the first time publicly. A new partnership between ANSYS and Airbus Defense and Space will develop a new artificial intelligence design tool to create the embedded flight control software for Europe's Future Combat Air System (FCAS). FCAS is a next-generation air combat development program involving France, Germany and now Spain to develop a system of fully automated remote air platforms and sixth-generation fighters that will replace the current generation of Eurofighter and Rafale jets operated by those three countries. Dassault and Airbus are the lead prime manufacturers for the FCAS program. A mockup of the future FCAS stealth fighter concept was shown publicly for the first time during the 2019 Paris Air Show.

Automating Machine Learning Models on AWS
Working as a Research Assistant under Professor Gordon Gao, at the University of Maryland, I have had the opportunity to combine both my Data Engineering and Science interests to automate machine learning models in the cloud. Assisting one of Professor Gao's Phd fellows, I was tasked with providing an AWS-based solution, which would reduce human interventions when running a deep learning model for an upcoming health startup. "Reduce Costs of EC2 instances, by running them only for computations, these computations happen whenever a customer uploads data into an S3 bucket, which can be anytime during the day." The computations mentioned encompass the machine learning model and processing data uploaded in S3. This meant, the EC2 should only be run for executing the ML model and should be switched off at other times, also these jobs don't have a fixed time and, the only fixed property they possess is that they have to be run as soon as the data is uploaded into the S3 Data bucket.
Flying robo-taxis eyed for Bay Area commuters
French inventor Frank Zapata grabbed headlines around the world this summer when he flew his hoverboard across the English channel from Pas de Calais, France, to the famous white cliffs of Dover. But Bay Area commuters may soon do Zapata one better by skimming above San Francisco Bay on autonomous, single-passenger drones being developed by a Peninsula start-up company with ties to Google. The automated drones are electrically powered, capable of vertical takeoff and landing, and would fly 10 feet above the water at 20 mph along a pre-determined flight path not subject to passenger controls. The drones' rotors are able to shift from vertical to horizontal alignment for efficient forward movement after takeoff. The company behind all this, three-year-old Kitty Hawk Corp., has personal financial backing from Google founder Larry Page, now CEO of Google's parent, Alphabet, who has long been interested in autonomous forms of transportation.
Tech industry warns US immigration policy hurts American competitiveness in AI
A trade group representing some of the world's largest technology companies is urging governments to rethink their immigration policies or risk falling behind in artificial intelligence and machine learning. The issue is front-of-mind in the Seattle region where companies like Microsoft, Amazon, the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI2), and others are working to develop a global AI hub. The Partnership on AI published a new paper asking policymakers to create a framework for AI experts, students, and technologists to travel more freely between countries. The nonprofit represents the companies above and nearly 100 other tech firms and research institutions. Though the paper was directed at lawmakers generally, President Donald Trump's immigration agenda is an undercurrent throughout.
