A revised version of the NSF Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 19-1), is effective for proposals submitted, or due, on or after February 25, 2019. Please be advised that, depending on the specified due date, the guidelines contained in NSF 19-1 may apply to proposals submitted in response to this funding opportunity. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has advanced tremendously and today promises personalized healthcare; enhanced national security; improved transportation; and more effective education, to name just a few benefits. Increased computing power, the availability of large datasets and streaming data, and algorithmic advances in machine learning (ML) have made it possible for AI development to create new sectors of the economy and revitalize industries. Continued advancement, enabled by sustained federal investment and channeled toward issues of national importance, holds the potential for further economic impact and quality-of-life improvements.

Why humans trump AI in client relationships

#artificialintelligence

Of late, the accountancy industry has been the subject of a slew of negative media headlines, especially in the auditing space. Scrutiny has surrounded the administration of high-profile businesses like BHS and Patisserie Valerie at a time when the number of UK companies going into administration hit a five year high. News of a lack of accountability has been rife: the Charity Commission recently accused auditors of'letting down' their profession and clients after a study found only half of sample charity accounts met the required standards set by the watchdog. While not necessarily a fair reflection of the whole industry, trust has undoubtedly been knocked. Not only has accountancy been battling a wider crisis in confidence, but we have been doing so during the'rise of robots'.

Six Ways For Leaders To Stay Agile In The Age Of Artificial Intelligence

#artificialintelligence

Over the next decade, artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to impact all kinds of industries and fundamentally shift the way we work. In an article by former McKinsey consultant Pedro Uria Recio, "More than 80% of process-oriented tasks will be done by AI systems ... while humans will continue to do more than 80% of cross-functional reasoning tasks." Furthermore, in a survey conducted by The Economist Intelligence Unit, 75% of executives say "AI will be'actively implemented' in companies within the next three years." The impact of AI on our work is not something in the distant future. Leaders will have to shift into roles that require them to think strategically, operate in uncertain environments and learn quickly.

Utopos Games raises $1 million to make AI-based robot battle game Raivo

#artificialintelligence

Utopos Games has raised $1 million for its robot-battle game Raivo, which the company says is the first title to gamify machine learning. In Raivo, the player collects and trains a team of robots into fighters that will enter an online match against robots trained by other players around the world. These robots are intelligent, learning creatures that are based on the latest AI technology that will battle the way the player trains them to battle. Utopos Games is a new game development studio founded by a team of true game industry veterans who first worked together on Command & Conquer games 20 years ago, said Jani Penttinen, CEO of Utopos Games in Las Vegas, in an email. From robots to staplers, a top 10 list of medtech safety hazards

#artificialintelligence

Medical devices used outside of acute care settings, such as point-of-care ultrasound, and those whose rapid development has outpaced safety assessments, namely robots, are among the top health technology hazards that nonprofit ECRI Institute has identified in a new report. Leading the organization's list, however, are accidents associated with a decades-old technology, surgical staplers. Problems associated with staplers have led FDA to propose reclassifying the devices from Class I to Class II, a higher-risk category that would allow the agency to establish special controls and labeling requirements for the devices. An advisory panel for the agency endorsed the proposal in May, and Medtronic and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons both have voiced support for formal reclassification. ECRI annually compiles a list of its 10 biggest safety concerns from incident investigations and device testing as well as public and private event reporting databases.

Wells Fargo Predicts That Robots Will Steal 200,000 Banking Jobs Within The Next 10 Years

#artificialintelligence

A customer uses an automatic teller machine (ATM) inside a Wells Fargo & Co. bank branch in New York, U.S., on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018. According to a Wells Fargo research report, robots will eliminate 200,000 jobs in the banking industry within the next 10 years. These numbers seem astounding and mind-boggling. However, the robot overhaul has been in motion for some time. While others use the term "robots," it's fair to say that this also refers to artificial intelligence, advanced technology and sophisticated software. Like many business sectors, banks are under siege from a confluence of factors working against them.
