Combo of machine vision and edge computing opens new IoT

#artificialintelligence

Right now sorting boxes onto the appropriate pallet as these goods move through a supply chain is a time-consuming, error-prone manual process. But it doesn't have to be. During the recent PACK Expo in Las Vegas, ADLINK demonstrated how a combination of readily-available technologies can streamline the palletization process. Broadly speaking, using sensing technology to derive new value from physical assets is the entire premise of the internet of things. But beyond sensors, achieving this new level of value from a digitized world requires localized data analysis on top of edge computing infrastructure.

How to start an engineering revolution

#artificialintelligence

Every once in a while, an idea comes along that is so visionary and so dynamic that it transforms an industry. One earth-shaking concept was the moving assembly line. Today, a new engineering revolution is being driven by the tens of thousands of smart controllers and millions of sensors that are used to run production facilities in every sector, everywhere in the world. Currently, enterprise assets are equipped with sensors that provide process status and health feedback. This isn't a new concept; it's been used in the industrial sector for many years to control processes through devices such as PLCs, PACs, and VFDs that use this process data .

Is AI the Future of CRM? - Workbooks CRM

There are rare occasions when technology breaks out of the bonds of the geeks in the basement and impinges on the national consciousness. The debate around AI is just one of those occasions. Politicians, business leaders, trade unionists, and media commentators have all weighed in on the subject: AI is going to create jobs; AI is going to destroy jobs, AI is going to make us more efficient, AI is going to make us money…and so on. According to research from Accenture, the use of AI can improve enterprise efficiency by up to 40 percent. No organization is going to turn away from gains like that!

At Hot Chips 2019, Intel revealed new details of upcoming high-performance artificial intelligence (AI) accelerators: Intel Nervana neural network processors, with the NNP-T for training and the NNP-I for inference. Intel engineers also presented technical details on hybrid chip packaging technology, Intel Optane DC persistent memory and chiplet technology for optical I/O. Myriad X is the first VPU to feature the Neural Compute Engine - a dedicated hardware accelerator for running on-device deep neural network applications. Interfacing directly with other key components via the intelligent memory fabric, the Neural Compute Engine is able to deliver industry leading performance per Watt without encountering common data flow bottlenecks encountered by other architectures. Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), announced that it is bringing the Company's artificial intelligence (AI) expertise to the cloud with the Qualcomm Cloud AI 100. Built from the ground up to meet the explosive demand for AI inference processing in the cloud, the Qualcomm Cloud AI 100 utilizes the Company's heritage in advanced signal processing and power efficiency. Our 4th generation on-device AI engine is the ultimate personal assistant for camera, voice, XR and gaming – delivering smarter, faster and more secure experiences. Utilizing all cores, it packs 3 times the power of its predecessor for stellar on-device AI capabilities. With the open-source release of NVDLA's optimizing compiler on GitHub, system architects and software teams now have a starting point with the complete source for the world's first fully open software and hardware inference platform. The next generation of NVIDIA's GPU designs, Turing will be incorporating a number of new features and is rolling out this year. Nvidia launched its second-generation DGX system in March. In order to build the 2 petaflops half-precision DGX-2, Nvidia had to first design and build a new NVLink 2.0 switch chip, named NVSwitch.

It can travel more than 25,000 miles alongside customers, work more than 100,000 hours, and check up to 30,000 products an hour. It takes its time strolling through the aisles. Moving at the same speed of a small child but heavy enough that it cannot easily topple over, Tally the robot can audit stock keeping units with 97 percent accuracy. Meanwhile it would take humans a full week to do the same amount of work and results as Tally with only 65 percent accuracy. Who wouldn't want Tally, or a similar robot, in their stores?
