Machine Learning Methods Can Detect UTI in Dementia Patients - Renal and Urology News
Algorithms that combine Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and in-home sensory devices with machine learning techniques can be used to monitor the health and well-being of people with dementia, according to a study published online in PLOS ONE. Shirin Enshaeifar, PhD, from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, and colleagues introduced a systematic approach to provide more effective and preventive care for patients with dementia living at home. IoT technologies and in-home sensory devices were combined with machine learning techniques to monitor health and well-being. The researchers designed an algorithm to detect urinary tract infection (UTI), which represents one of the main causes of hospital admission in dementia patients. The algorithm was developed using a Non-negative Matrix Factorization technique, which extracted latent factors from raw observation and used them for clustering and identifying potential cases of UTI.

Researchers Try to Craft the Perfect Boob Using Eye-Tracking Technology
Let's get two things out of the way: First of all, there are a lot of reasons to get a boob job, none of which are anyone else's business. Second, the perfect boob does not exist. But if you were a plastic surgeon hoping to be the Michelangelo of one person's idealized breasts, it would help to have a shared language of what's aesthetically important. Most plastic surgeons accomplish this over the course of several consultations, talking to the patient about what will make them happy. In an attempt to improve this process, a team of researchers in Poland used eye-tracking technology to see what parts of the boob people looked at when assessing the symmetry and relative attractiveness of breasts.
Meet the Bonebot; our AI solution to automatically detect fractured vertebrae UCB
As part of our continuing effort to change the bone health landscape for the better, we have collaborated with University Hospital Brussels and KU Leuven to reinvigorate the current methodology of detecting vertebral (spinal) fractures, because of osteoporosis, which often go undetected. Considered a silent epidemic in bone health; osteoporosis is estimated to affect 200 million people worldwide and is the most common bone disease, resulting in more than 8.9 million fragility fractures each year around the globe. Of these, vertebral fractures are the most common, with one occurring every 22 seconds worldwide in men and women over age 50. The impact of these vertebral fractures can be distressing as they often lead to back pain, loss of height, deformity, immobility, increased number of bed days, and even reduced pulmonary function. The impact on a patient's mental health is also significant with reports of loss of self-esteem, distorted body image and depression.
BioSig Technologies Announces New Collaboration on Development of Artificial Intelligence Solutions in Healthcare :: BioSig Technologies, Inc. (BSGM)
BioSig Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: BSGM) ("BioSig" or the "Company"), a medical technology company developing a proprietary biomedical signal processing platform designed to improve signal fidelity and uncover the full range of ECG and intra-cardiac signals, today announced that the Company entered into a technical collaboration with Reified Capital, a provider of advanced artificial intelligence-focused technical advisory services to the private sector. Reified was co-founded by Dr. Alexander D. Wissner-Gross and Timothy M. Sullivan, the founders of Gemedy. The new collaboration with Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Reified will focus on developing a foundational artificial intelligence platform on the basis of integrated healthcare datasets, beginning with ECG and EEG data acquired by BioSig's first product, PURE EP(tm) System - a novel real-time signal processing platform engineered to provide electrophysiologists with high fidelity cardiac signals. Electrophysiology focused technological solutions developed under the terms of this collaboration will be integrated into the PURE EP(tm) technology platform. Reified is led by Harvard- and MIT-trained computer scientist and physicist Dr. Wissner-Gross, an award-winning computer scientist, physicist, entrepreneur and author.
Fighting Pollution with Deep Learning
In response, the government takes some scripted measures like shutting down schools on occasion and enforcing the infamous Odd-Even scheme, forcing half the cities cars off the streets. Pollution in Delhi has several causes: seasonal stubble burning in neighboring states, vehicular emission, as well as smoke from power plants and brick kilns dotting the national capital region. Fighting pollution needs a multi-pronged approach -- government policies alone are not enough, they need to be coupled with action on the ground. Let's take brick kilns as an example. Before we can address the pollution caused by them, we need to know exactly how many such kilns are there and their location, whether they are increasing in number or decreasing, and how many are adopting technology to reduce emission, as mandated by the law. Satellite imagery coupled with deep learning can answer these questions, increase accountability and drive results on the ground.

Treading New Ground in Consumer Electronics - Taiwan Business TOPICS
Taiwan's consumer electronics providers have begun exploring new market segments in the face of slowing global economic growth, decreased replacement demand, persistent concerns over the U.S.-China trade war, and stiff competition from China. The 2019 edition of IFA, one of the world's largest consumer electronics exhibitions, which was held in Berlin in September, provided a glimpse into the progress some of these companies are making. Acer, known primarily for its consumer notebooks and tablets, showed off a few new additions to its line of gaming-oriented computing products designed to please some of the world's most demanding gamers. The company's Predator brand, launched in 2016, includes gaming notebooks, desktops, and displays that boast ultra-low response times and ultra-high resolution. They also contain extra-efficient cooling technology to facilitate long hours of gaming despite the energy-gobbling graphics.

PHL artificial-intelligence road map in the works, DTI chief Lopez says
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) sets the wheels in motion for the crafting of the country's artificial-intelligence sector road map as testament to the Philippine potential as an AI powerhouse in the Asean region. Trade Undersecretary Rafaelita M. Aldaba of the Competitiveness and Innovation Group led the formal signing of an agreement with distinguished data scientists, Dr. Christopher P. Monterola and Dr. Erika Fille T. Legara, for the formulation of an AI road map early this month. With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) where technology becomes more enmeshed with everyday life, AI advancement is seen as one of the key factors to help keep our country competitive. AI's importance is underscored as it is emerging to be a potential bright spot for our country with wide opportunities for growth for our competent work force. "The formulation of the AI road map is very important and timely. This effort provides the impetus that will move the country forward to keep up with the rapidly changing times," Aldaba emphasized.
