AI Market to See Five-Fold Increase Globally by 2025

#artificialintelligence

Forecasts have shown that the global AI market is set to see a five-fold increase in value, from $22.6 billion in 2020 to $126 billion by 2025, with one in five workers using the tech as part of their job. The boost comes as the growing volume and complexity of business data forces many firms across a variety of industries to adopt AI to boost growth. The Tradica Artificial Intelligence Market Forecast revealed that, in 2018, the value of global AI software industry hit $10.1 billion. Since then, the market value doubled to $22.6 billion. AI is making big changes for industries across the world, helping to make improvements to efficiency, quality, and speed, automation, deep learning, and natural language processing.

Teaching 'common sense' to artificial intelligence

#artificialintelligence

Ever wonder why virtual assistant Siri can easily tell you what the square root of 1,558 is in an instant but can't answer the question "what happens to an egg when you drop it on the ground?" Artificial intelligence (A.I.) interfaces on devices like Apple's iPhone or Amazon's Alexa often fall flat on what many people consider to be basic questions, but can be speedy and accurate in their responses to complicated math problems. That's because modern A.I. currently lacks common sense. "What people who don't work in A.I. everyday don't realize is just how primitive what we call'A.I.' is nowadays," machine-learning researcher Alan Fern of Oregon State University's College of Engineering told KOIN 6 News. "We have A.I.s that do very specialized, specific things, specific tasks, but they're not general purpose. They can't interact in general ways because they don't have the common sense that you need to do that."

Covid-19: Virus-killing robot developed by TCD start-up

#artificialintelligence

A robot emitting ultraviolet light (UVC) with the ability to disinfect hospitals and get rid of the Covid-19 virus has been developed by a start-up attached to Trinity College Dublin. Being able to clean healthcare facilities thoroughly and quickly is hugely demanding as coronavirus cases escalate. Created by Akara Robotics, it is clinically proven to kill viruses, bacteria and harmful germs, and does so in a much shorter time compared to usual cleaning methods, according to its inventor Dr Conor McGinn. Robot Violet was tested in an acute hospital in the Dublin area last week after Dr McGinn contacted the HSE indicating it would be effective in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic in healthcare settings. They are awaiting microbiological test results to confirm its effectiveness.

New university in Abu Dhabi focuses on artificial intelligence

#artificialintelligence

Millions more jobs will be created than lost with the advance of artificial intelligence, the British head of a new university dedicated to the subject has said. Sir Michael Brady, 75, president of the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence in Abu Dhabi, predicted that innovations in machine learning would rival the invention of the car in transforming productivity. The university, which opens in August with 75 masters and PhD students, will focus on key applications of AI, such as computer vision, which helps to detect cancers, machine learning and natural language processing, which is vital for speech recognition and translation.

Insights on Artificial intelligence Studies on COVID-19

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence tools and administrations are being utilized or offered by organizations around the globe to help battle the corona virus pandemic. In an ideal situation, whereby the infection transmission is hugely relieved, scientists from Imperial College London anticipate "there would even now be in the request for 250,000 passings in GB, and 1.1–1.2 million in the US" coming about because of the coronavirus. Royal College London's examination arrived in Washington throughout the end of the week, and it's said to be the explanation for the US venturing up its reaction. English PM Johnson cautioned that further measures in the UK would probably be presented in the coming days, and a corona virus bill for crisis powers is advancing toward the House of Commons. Much like in wartime, advances, and social investigations that under ordinary conditions would take years or decades to be tried and executed will be hurried into utilization in days or weeks.

Structure-based AI tool can predict wide range of very different reactions

#artificialintelligence

New software has been created that can predict a wide range of reaction outcomes but is also more flexible than other programs when it comes to dealing with completely different chemical problems. The machine-learning platform, which uses structure-based molecular representations instead of big reaction-based datasets, could find diverse applications in organic chemistry. Although machine-learning methods have been widely used to predict the molecular properties and biological activities of target molecules, their application in predicting reaction outcomes has been limited because current models usually can't be transferred to different problems. Instead, complex parameterisation is required for each individual case to achieve good results. Researchers in Germany are now reporting a general approach that overcomes this limitation.

NRF 2020: Retail technology trends and deals InfotechLead

#artificialintelligence

National Retail Federation's annual Big Show and Expo in New York – have announced several retail technology deals, indicating that innovation is the key to improve customer experience. Total e-commerce revenue in 2020 will reach $3.52 trillion, an explosion that will force retailers to find faster and more convenient modes to reach the final mile and yard, according to tech market advisory firm, ABI Research. There is increasing convergence of online and in-store businesses, with brick and mortar positioned as hubs closer to the customer, as well as e-commerce sites directing package delivery to retail outlets. Additive investment will grow in Buy Online Pay in Store (BOPIS) options. Alibaba and JD.com have focus on growth through lower-tier cities, chasing fast growing, third place Pinduoduo's rural playbook to reach the next 600 million people.
