While DARPA is handing out money, they should also talk to the creators of this real-life film-making robot, which is able to analyze individual film frames and then join the best parts together as a finished film.

Cognex Introduces An Industrial Smart Camera Powered by Deep Learning

#artificialintelligence

Cognex Corporation introduces the In-Sight D900 embedded vision system. The In-Sight D900 features Cognex's ViDi deep learning software inside an In-Sight industrial-grade smart camera. The system is designed to solve applications including, optical character recognition (OCR), assembly verification, and defect detection. The In-Sight D900 system, which can be setup using a small number of image samples, leverages Cognex's spreadsheet platform and does not require a PC or deep learning expertise to deploy. The In-Sight D900 is ideal for automating complex inspection applications across a range of industries including automotive, consumer electronics, consumer products, packaging, food and beverage, medical devices, and logistics.

Artificial intelligence to advance ADHD diagnosis

#artificialintelligence

A globally renowned expert in artificial intelligence (AI) from the University of Huddersfield has produced innovative research to show how technology can be used to support the diagnosis of ADHD in adults. Professor Grigoris Antoniou, the project lead from the university, said the work started after the NHS wanted to speed up diagnosis as currently treatments are available, but the process can be slow. "There are long and growing waiting lists, as people wait to be diagnosed and treated, and this can result in adverse effects on their work, their social life and their family life," said Professor Antoniou. He added a reason for the lengthening waiting time due to a limited number of specialist clinicians able to do a full diagnosis. It has been estimated that 1.5 million UK adults have ADHD, leading to a wide range of difficulties, jeopardising careers and relationships.

accessiBe Looks to Advance digital Inclusion through AI-Powered Web Accessibility

There are about one billion people living with disability around the world. In the United States, 61 million Americans live with some form of disability. Unfortunately, despite their significant numbers, efforts to ensure that they have equal access to spaces, utilities, and services remain lacking. Take technology and the internet, for example. Disabled people typically need assistive devices and applications to use computers.

How AI turns sales reps into insight sellers

#artificialintelligence

These days consumers and businesses no longer think of artificial intelligence (AI) as something from a sci-fi movie or book – that's because AI is now part of everyday life. Just think of Netflix's suggestion algorithm, Uber's location algorithm and even Tinder's matching algorithm – all business models powered by AI to help drive consumer decisions. And the same AI can be used in the sales process to help sales teams make decisions. At World Tour Sydney Reimagined we saw Salesforce Einstein Voice provide deal coaching to sales reps using predictive technology. And in the Sales keynote, Modern Star explained how their sales reps were using data insights to further understand their customer and close deals.

Google Doodles: Tech giant brings back some of its popular interactive games

USATODAY - Tech Top Stories

Remember when you could play Pac-Man or solve a Rubik's Cube on Google's homepage? Interactive games such as those are making a comeback. Scaling your AI-powered Battlesnake with distributed reinforcement learning in Amazon SageMaker Amazon Web Services

#artificialintelligence

Battlesnake is an AI competition in which you build AI-powered snakes. Battlesnake's rules are similar to the traditional snakes game. Your goal is to be the last surviving snake when competing against other snakes. Developers of all levels build snakes using techniques ranging from unique heuristic-based strategies to state-of-the-art deep reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms. You can use the SageMaker Battlesnake Starter Pack to build your own snake and compete in the Battlesnake arena.

This Doctor From Kashmir Uses Machine Learning To Crunch Coronavirus Data

#artificialintelligence

A physician-turned-entrepreneur raised in Kashmir is now part of a team using big data and machine learning to help detect useful patterns in the tsunami of public health data generated world-wide by the COVID-19 crisis and do what he can for those back home. Junaid Nabi, a public health researcher at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, says his experiences with the health system in the developing world drives his current work. "Growing up in Kashmir, a society marred with social, economic, and healthcare disparities, I was exposed to the inherent inequities in my community at an early age," he said, "During the final years of my training, I had an opportunity to work with some non-profit organizations, especially the rescue teams during the Savar building collapse in Dhaka, Bangladesh." "This is when I noticed that clinical medicine does not answer all the questions clinical work asks." Nabi, who is also an Aspen New Voices Fellow, is now working with colleagues at Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health to develop digital tools that harness big data and machine learning to rapidly evaluate patterns in the data pouring in from clinical research. "I believe machine learning has an important role in COVID-19," he said.

Robots, AI, and the road to a fully autonomous construction industry

#artificialintelligence

Built Robotics executives are fond of saying that their autonomous system for construction equipment, like dozers and excavators, might be further along than many autonomous vehicles. In fact, CEO Noah Ready-Campbell insists you'll see autonomous vehicles in controlled industrial environments -- like construction sites -- before you see level 5 driverless cars on public roads. That may be in part because autonomous construction equipment often operates on privately owned land, while public roads face increased regulatory scrutiny. "There's a quote that'Cold fusion is 20 years in the future and always will be,'" Ready-Campbell told VentureBeat. "I think there's a chance that that might be true for level 5 self-driving cars as well."
