Mind Blowing Tech in Learning: AI, VR, and AR featuring Prof. Donald Clark @DonaldClark

#artificialintelligence

Hoy traemos a este espacio esta conferencia titulada "Mind Blowing Tech in Learning: AI, VR, and AR featuring" del Prof. Donald Clark, del Center for Online Innovation in Learning y que nos presentan asรญ: Artificial intelligence (AI) is now the most potent force in IT and will shape learning technology, allowing us to escape from the 30 year paradigm of flat, linear e-learning. During this COIL Fischer Speaker Series presentation, Professor Donald Clark debunks some myths about AI and provide real examples of AI used now in content creation, feedback, assessment and spaced practice. In addition he will talk about virtual reality (VR) & augmented reality (AR) as reviving'learning by doing' and their power to democratize experience. Donald Clark is an EdTech entrepreneur and was CEO and one of the original founders of Epic Group plc, which established itself as the leading company in the UK online learning market, floated on the Stock Market in 1996 and sold in 2005, now CEO of Wildfire Ltd. he also invests in, and advises, EdTech companies. Describing himself as'free from the tyranny of employment', he is a board member of Cogbooks, LearningPool, WildFire and Deputy Chair of Brighton Dome & Arts Festival as well as a Visiting Professor at The University of Derby and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).

Creating a music genre model with your own data in AWS DeepComposer Amazon Web Services

#artificialintelligence

AWS DeepComposer is an educational AWS service that teaches generative AI and uses Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) to transform a melody that you provide into a completely original song. With AWS DeepComposer, you can use one of the pre-trained music genre models (such as Jazz, Rock, Pop, Symphony, or Jonathan-Coulton) or train your own. As a part of training your custom music genre model, you store your music data files in NumPy objects. This post accompanies the training steps in Lab 2 โ€“ Train a custom GAN model on GitHub and demonstrates how to convert your MIDI files to the proper training format for AWS DeepComposer. For this use case, you use your own MIDI files to train a Reggae music genre model.

Microsoft lays off journalists to replace them with AI

#artificialintelligence

Microsoft is laying off dozens of journalists and editorial workers at its Microsoft News and MSN organizations. The layoffs are part of a bigger push by Microsoft to rely on artificial intelligence to pick news and content that's presented on MSN.com, inside Microsoft's Edge browser, and in the company's various Microsoft News apps. Many of the affected workers are part of Microsoft's SANE (search, ads, News, Edge) division, and are contracted as human editors to help pick stories. "Like all companies, we evaluate our business on a regular basis," says a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement. "This can result in increased investment in some places and, from time to time, re-deployment in others. These decisions are not the result of the current pandemic."

Smart Planning Will Grow Artificial Intelligence - Lane Report

Many in Kentucky's tech, academia, government and nonprofit circles understand that rapidly developing artificial intelligence is changing the work they do, prompting 1,100 to sign up for the "Tomorrow's Talent: AI & The Future of Work" conference in Louisville in late February.

A.I. Shows Promise Assisting Physicians

Drawing on the records of nearly 600,000 Chinese patients who had visited a pediatric hospital over an 18-month period, the vast collection of data used to train this new system highlights an advantage for China in the worldwide race toward artificial intelligence. Because its population is so large -- and because its privacy norms put fewer restrictions on the sharing of digital data -- it may be easier for Chinese companies and researchers to build and train the "deep learning" systems that are rapidly changing the trajectory of health care. On Monday, President Trump signed an executive order meant to spur the development of A.I. across government, academia and industry in the United States. As part of this "American A.I. Initiative," the administration will encourage federal agencies and universities to share data that can drive the development of automated systems. Pooling health care data is a particularly difficult endeavor.

U.S. Approves Sale of Scrutinized Chinese App

WSJ.com: WSJD - Technology

U.S. national security officials have approved an investor group's purchase of gay-dating app Grindr that is being sold by a Chinese company after the Trump administration raised concerns about the potential theft of Americans' personal data. In investor documents released Friday, China's Beijing Kunlun Tech Co. said that the buyer has secured approval from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, a panel of national security experts who ordered that Beijing Kunlun Tech sell its ownership last year.

Hot papers on arXiv from the past month โ€“ May 2020

AIHub

Here are the most tweeted papers that were uploaded onto arXiv during May 2020. Results are powered by Arxiv Sanity Preserver. Abstract: We present a new method that views object detection as a direct set prediction problem. Our approach streamlines the detection pipeline, effectively removing the need for many hand-designed components like a non-maximum suppression procedure or anchor generation that explicitly encode our prior knowledge about the task. The main ingredients of the new framework, called DEtection TRansformer or DETR, are a set-based global loss that forces unique predictions via bipartite matching, and a transformer encoder-decoder architecture.

New Delhi: The Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Law and Justice and Communications Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday (May 30, 2020) launched India s national Artificial Intelligence Portal called www.ai.gov.in. The portal will work as a one stop digital platform for AI related developments in India, sharing of resources such as articles, startups, investment funds in AI, resources, companies and educational institutions related to AI in India. The portal will also share documents, case studies, research reports etc. It has section about learning and new job roles related to AI. This portal has been jointly developed by the Ministry of Electronics and IT and IT Industry.

How companies can use AI and chatbots to succeed in the age of COVID-19

#artificialintelligence

COVID-19 is literally taking the world's breath away. The viral disease, also known colloquially as corona, which mainly affects the lungs, has now spread across the globe and poses difficult challenges for companies. While in some industries all sales are falling off, others are barely keeping up with the work. But it is precisely the industries that have been hit hard that can use the crisis period to tackle and try out new concepts. The use of artificial intelligence and chatbots is a good way of doing this.

AI Startup Combines Mouse Neurons With Silicon Chips To Make Computers Smarter, Faster

#artificialintelligence

There aren't many computer chips that you have to build a life support system for. You actually need to supply everything they would normally get in a fully biological body. As Hon Weng Chong, the CEO of Australia's Cortical Labs explains, it's all about creating computer systems that learn -- and that learn faster with less training data. That requires a different approach than standard Intel, Nvidia, or AMD chips, he says. "What we've actually built is a hybrid chip that is comprised of a CMOS sensor, so it's a silicon chip with a very fine mesh of electrodes. They're about 17 microns in pitch and there are about 22,000 of them," Chong told me on The AI Show recently.
