A Taxonomy of Data Risks in AI and Quantum Computing (QAI) - A Systematic Review
Billiris, Grace, Gill, Asif, Bandara, Madhushi
Quantum Artificial Intelligence (QAI), integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Quantum Computing (QC), promises transformative advances, such as enhancing privacy though AI - enabled quantum cryptography or securing future digital systems with quantum - resistance encryption protocols . A k ey barrier for QAI applications is that they inherit data risks associated with both AI and QC, including privacy and security concerns. AI's reliance on sensitive datasets, combined with QC's threat to classical encryption, creates complex vulnerabilities that are not studie d systematically . These issues directly impact the trustworthiness and reliability of AI or QAI systems, making them critical to address . This study aims to expand understanding by systematically reviewing 67 privacy and security - related studies . Our m ain contribution is a taxonomy developed to classify QAI data risks systematically. W e identify 22 key data risks grouped into five categories: governance, risk assessment, control implementation, user considerations, and continuous monitoring. Our findings reveal emerging vulnerabilities unique to QAI and highlight significant gaps in holistic understanding. This paper contributes to advancing trustworthy AI or QAI and provides a future research and risk assessment tool development to manage the evolving QAI data risk landscape .
Reverse Faร di Bruno's Formula for Cartesian Reverse Differential Categories
Biggin, Aaron, Lemay, Jean-Simon Pacaud
Reverse differentiation is an essential operation for automatic differentiation. Cartesian reverse differential categories axiomatize reverse differentiation in a categorical framework, where one of the primary axioms is the reverse chain rule, which is the formula that expresses the reverse derivative of a composition. Here, we present the reverse differential analogue of Faa di Bruno's Formula, which gives a higher-order reverse chain rule in a Cartesian reverse differential category. To properly do so, we also define partial reverse derivatives and higher-order reverse derivatives in a Cartesian reverse differential category.
Israeli strike on Yemen's Houthis reportedly kills eight
Israeli strike on Yemen's Houthis reportedly kills eight The Israeli military says its air force has carried out its most powerful strike in Yemen in response to the Houthi movement's repeated drone and missile attacks on Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said dozens of its aircraft bombed targets belonging to the Houthis' security and intelligence services, and military in the capital Sanaa. The Houthi-run government's health ministry denounced what it called Israel's brutal crime, saying civilian facilities and residential buildings were hit and that eight people were killed. It comes a day after 22 people were injured, two of them seriously, in a Houthi drone attack in the Israeli Red Sea resort of Eilat. The Houthis have controlled much of north-western Yemen since they ousted the country's internationally recognised government from there 10 years ago, sparking a civil war.
12 astonishing images from the 2025 Astrophotography Prize Photographer of the Year
This image was in the top 5 candidates in the Astro Landscape category of the 2025 Astrophotography Prize Photographer of the Year. Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent every weekday. After 545 entries from 155 photographers in 35 countries, the winners of this year's Astrophotography Prize Photographer of the Year are officially here. Photographer Ani Shastri of the United States received the top honors for Deep Field Squid Nebula (Ou4), a stunning image of a nebula about six times the size of the full moon. The judging panel featured 20 astrophotographers from eight countries: the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Thailand, Singapore, New Zealand, and Australia.
Drone attacks leave Denmark exposed - and searching for response
A night of drone incidents at airports and military bases all over Jutland, western Denmark, has not caused any harm or damage - and yet it has exposed the country's defences as vulnerable to attack. In an era of hybrid warfare, there is a sense of embarrassment in Denmark - a founding member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato) alliance - that its critical infrastructure has become so vulnerable. Aalborg and Billund airports had to close, while drones were spotted at Esbjerg, Sonderborg and Skrydstrup. Aalborg also serves as a military base and Skrydstrup is home to some of the air force's F-35 and F-16 war planes. Drones were also seen over the Jutland Dragoon regiment at Holstebro .
Elon Musk's xAI accuses OpenAI of stealing trade secrets in new lawsuit
Suit alleges OpenAI has a'troubling pattern' of hiring former xAI workers to access secrets about the Grok chatbot Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup xAI has accused rival OpenAI of stealing its trade secrets in a new lawsuit, the latest in Musk's legal assault on his former business partner, Sam Altman. The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday in California federal court, alleged that OpenAI was engaged in a "deeply troubling pattern" of hiring away former xAI employees to gain access to trade secrets related to its AI chatbot Grok . The company says OpenAI is pursuing unfair advantages in the race to develop AI technology. "OpenAI is targeting those individuals with knowledge of xAI's key technologies and business plans, including xAI's source code and its operational advantages in launching data centers, then inducing those employees to breach their confidentiality and other obligations to xAI through unlawful means," the lawsuit states. Musk and xAI have launched numerous lawsuits against OpenAI in recent years as part of a longstanding feud between Altman and Musk.
From South Park v Trump to AI slopaganda: deepfakes are now part of the news cycle, for better and for worse Anna Broinowski
South Park's 27th season return featured a jaw-dropping deepfake of Donald Trump that resulted in an official statement from the White House. South Park's 27th season return featured a jaw-dropping deepfake of Donald Trump that resulted in an official statement from the White House. Deepfakes come with risks that demand urgent regulation. But it is vital their potential as a creative and satirical tool isn't stifled S alman Rushdie believes AI will not be a threat to authors until ChatGPT can write " a funny book ". His faith in human over synthetic creativity may hold some truth in the literary space.
Is Sega restarting Nintendo rivalry with new Sonic Racing game?
The slogan, from the 1990s, is one of the most famous in video game history. It was a time when the bitter rivalry between the two Japanese game companies was at its fiercest. Today, that relationship has softened. You can play Sonic games on Nintendo consoles and the characters have even appeared in games together. But is Sega trying to restart the beef?
Astronomers Have Found 6,000 Planets Outside the Solar System
From lava worlds to gas giants, NASA says the variety of these worlds is staggering--and that signs of a further 8,000 distant planets are awaiting confirmation. The number of confirmed planets outside of our solar system--known as exoplanets-- has risen to 6,000, NASA has said. There is huge variety across these distant worlds, the space agency says, with discoveries including rocky planets, lava worlds, and gas giants enveloping their stars. Plenty more discoveries are likely on the way. As a result of continued monitoring by NASA's Exoplanet Science Institute (NExScI), there are more than 8,000 potential planets that have been identified and are awaiting confirmation.
Australian film altered in China to make gay couple straight
An Australian film that was digitally altered to change a same-sex couple to a heterosexual one has drawn backlash from moviegoers in China. Together, a horror film starring Dave Franco and Alison Brie, was shown in selected Chinese cinemas in advance screenings on 12 September. Cinemagoers later realised some scenes had been modified after screenshots showing the original scenes went viral online. The film was due to be publicly released on 19 September - but as of Thursday has yet to be aired in cinemas. The film's global distributor, Neon, later condemned the edit, saying they did not approve of [this] unauthorised edit... and demand they ceased distribution, according to reports.
