Sending money online is about to get easier and a lot more social. By using artificial intelligence and machine learning, startup Azimo is creating a Facebook Messenger bot that will let you communicate naturally with it and make transferring money easier. "You would be able to speak to Azimo and ask what the international rates are," company co-founder Marta Krupinska said at the WIRED Money event in London. Krupinksa, a Polish expat, added that artificially intelligent bots which are able to communicate in natural language – as if they were a human – will play a role in money transfers in the future. "We want to get to a point where the experience is like going into a branch," she says.

A robot in Russia caused an unusual traffic jam last week after it "escaped" from a research lab, and now, the artificially intelligent bot is making headlines again after it reportedly tried to flee a second time, according to news reports. Engineers at the Russian lab reprogrammed the intelligent machine, dubbed Promobot IR77, after last week's incident, but the robot recently made a second escape attempt, The Mirror reported. Last week, the robot made it approximately 160 feet (50 meters) to the street, before it lost power and "partially paralyzed" traffic. The first time the robot escaped it was due to an improperly latched gate.


Rolls Royce reveals remote controlled 'roboship'

Rolls Royce has revealed planed for fleets of'drone ships' to ferry carry around the world - all controlled from a central'holodeck'. It believes an entirely unmanned ship could take to the seas by 2020. Rolls Royce said it has already begun testing the technology needed to make the ships a reality, and expected them to take to the sea by the end of the decade. Cameras would beam 360-degree views from the drone ship back to operators based in a virtual bridge.


Artificial intelligence algorithm predicts the future

Researchers have developed a deep learning algorithm capable of successfully predicting what will happen in a video clip based on one still clip from the footage. The Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) made the breakthrough in predictive vision by training an algorithm using 600 hundred hours of YouTube videos. By searching for patterns and recognizable objects like hands and faces, the algorithm was able to predict human interactions such as hugging, kissing, shaking hands or high fiving. The research is set to be presented this week at the International Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR). "Humans automatically learn to anticipate actions through experience, which is what made us interested in trying to imbue computers with the same sort of common sense," said MIT PhD student and the paper's first author Carl Vondrick.
