Germany Says 'Nein' to Tesla Calling Its Tech 'Autopilot'

Tesla Motors' cars kinda drive themselves, but its Autopilot technology has caused some headaches for the company. Consumer Reports called on Tesla to recall the feature, calling it "too much autonomy, too soon." A Florida man died in a crash while using Autopilo. And now, German transport minister Alexander Dobrindt asked Tesla to ditch the term "Autopilot," arguing it can lead consumers to think the car is far more capable than it is. Bombastic! Russia Unveils Kamikaze Robotic Tank

Highly maneuverable and silent, this miniature robotic tank, built at the Degtyarev Plant in Kovrov, will sneak up on its target totally unnoticed and take the enemy by surprise. "The Nerekhta system has been put on the list of future fighting robots currently being mulled for use by the Russian Armed Forces, a Defense Ministry official told the newspaper. "If the combat platform passes the tests, it will enter service with our army scouts and Special Ops troops." The Nerekhta is built around a light armored rubber-track platform and looks like a miniature tank where the turret is replaced with an explosives-packed container. Weighing 300 kilograms and just over one meter long, the Nerekhta can haul hundreds of kilograms of high explosives at 11 km/h in a silent mode. Before it goes into combat a map of the the battlefield with the coordinates of the designated targets is downloaded to its onboard computer. All its operators need to do is just push a button clicking the number of the downloaded targets and leave the rest to this powerful tank. Receiving the radio command, the Nerekhta will plot its course to the target, approach it and blow it up. This is exactly what the Nerekhta did when it was unveiled to the public during the Army-2016 expo outside Moscow. "A robotic arm will eventually be added on to make the Nerekhta reusable.

Ever wanted to know what historical images would look like in color? Rudy Marsman used a computer algorithm to add color to six black and white films from the archives of the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision. Rudy is a master student in Information Science at the VU University in Amsterdam. The automatic coloring of moving images was part of the research he did for his master thesis at Sound and Vision. As part of my master's thesis I researched the possibilities to automatically color black and white videos.

In part 1 we looked at using linear regression, with the aid of a spreadsheet, to see if we could predict within a reasonable tolerance predict what Darcey Bussell's scoring would be based on Craig Revel Horwood's score. No big deal, it worked quite well, it took less thank five minutes and didn't interfere with me making a cup of tea. Linear Regression is all well and good but this is 2016, this is the year where every Northern Ireland company decides it's going to do artificial intelligence and machine learning with hardly any dataโ€ฆ. So, we're going to upgrade the Darcey Coefficient and go all Techcrunch/Google/DeepMind on it, Darcey's predictions are now going to be an Artificial Neural Network! They're good but held with a small amount of skepticism.

DeepMind is able of learning, or better said of teaching itself, based on data it already possesses. According to The Next Web, this is a significant step forward for artificial intelligence, a real breakthrough that revolutionizes the field. DeepMind technology is based on Alphabet's hybrid system called Differential Neural Computer (DNC).


IBM AI system Watson to diagnose rare diseases in Germany - BBC News

IBM's artificial intelligence platform Watson will work with doctors in Germany attempting to solve some complex medical cases. It will be based at the Undiagnosed and Rare Diseases Centre at the University Hospital in Marburg. So far, Watson has looked at half a dozen cases, but it is unclear how many it has correctly diagnosed. AI systems are increasingly being used in healthcare, with Google's DeepMind partnering several UK hospitals. The Watson partnership, with private hospital group Rhon-Klinkum AG, will be piloted from the end of the year.
