17-year-old uses deep learning to program AI cars that race around in your browser
Want to learn about deep learning neural networks, or simply want to try and crash an AI-powered car? You can do both with the "Self-Driving Cars In A Browser" project. German software engineer Jan Hünermann watches two autonomous cars -- one colored pink, the other turquoise -- race around a track. There are various obstacles set up to confound them, but thanks to the brain-inspired neural networks that provide them with their intelligence, the cars smoothly navigate these obstacles with the confidence of seasoned pros. From time to time, Hünermann throws a new obstacle in their path, and then watches with satisfaction as the cars dodge this new impediment.

Why take the bus, has been the threat, when you could summon a driverless car to your door? Some European countries are finding that more people use public transit if it's combined with door-to-door service. "Switzerland is still a country where people love the trains. They are always on time. They are running every half hour and they are very proud of that," said Michael Frankenberg, managing director of the German engineering firm HaCon Ingenieurgesellschaft.
Trump Allows CIA Drone Strikes, Reversing Obama Policy: Report
Shifting from the drone policy of the Obama administration, President Donald Trump has given the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) new authority to conduct drone attacks against suspected militants, anonymous U.S. officials said. The new policy is in contrast to that of former President Barack Obama that limited the CIA's paramilitary role, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday. Under the Obama administration, the CIA used drones and other intelligence resources to locate suspected terrorists and then the military conducted the actual strike. Although Obama pushed for the use of drones, he kept the military in place to conduct the actual strike. During Obama's two terms, a total of 563 strikes, largely by drones, targeted Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen compared to 57 strikes under George W. Bush, according to the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.

Tech-savvy singles like Mayank don't blink before using a speed-dating chatbot like Neargroup which helps them zoom into the right date. The chatbot's in-built AI helps the user to find the right match based on nearby locations, interests and also conversations.

Artificial intelligence and cognitive computing is being heralded as the brave new frontier of clinical IT, Kim Thomas reports on how it is already beginning to reshape radiology imaging and diagnostics. IBM chose December's annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America to showcase the ability of its Watson supercomputer to rapidly analyse medical images and suggest a diagnosis. Mark Griffiths, a clinical radiologist at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, who attended RSNA, says he saw some "stunning demonstrations" of the technology, including chest X-rays being "reported in milliseconds." Watson is an example of a technology that IBM refers to as "cognitive computing". Using a form of artificial intelligence known as natural language processing, Watson, a cloud-based system, is able to analyse vast stores of scholarly articles, patient records and medical images.

Winning the Future with Artificial Intelligence
Wikileaks caught the CIA with its pants down this week when they released a massive collection of information about cyberattack techniques the agency uses to hack iPhones and major communication services. It's alleged that Wikileaks was given the the documents courtesy of Russia, who hacked into American systems to find them. If they prove to be real, it's a major blow to the US. You can bet that governments like Iran and China are loving the fact that they can use the documents to better defend themselves against future American attacks. In a recent interview, Alphabet's Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt, claimed "that big data is so powerful that nation states will fight wars over data."
Why tech giants are claiming space in healthcare
From cloud platforms for medical data and hospital smart rooms to artificial intelligence and patient-engagement technologies, the giants of the digital world are threatening to disrupt healthcare. Leading the pack is IBM and its centerpiece offering Watson Health. In just the last six months, the company has announced major initiatives into healthcare including a partnership with clinical consultation provider Best Doctors to add Watson's cancer suite to employee benefits packages, a population health management alliance with Siemens Healthineers and an effort linking IBM's PowerAI deep learning software toolkit with NVIDIA's NVLink interconnect technology. The PowerAI is already being used improve diagnoses and care plans by sifting through patient data. In October, Big Blue announced a $200 million investment in its Watson Internet of Things global headquarters in Munich, Germany.
