Supporting Active Learning and #Education by Artificial Intelligence and Web 2.0 by @ullrich #AI

#artificialintelligence

Throughout my career, I have been investigating how new technology and research results can be of benefit for the average user. Over the years I worked with cutting edge technology (Artificial Intelligence, Semantic Web, Web 2.0, mobile applications) and investigated its potential to be employed in daily life, by non-experts. I have years of expertise in coordinating international teams. I like to talk about and present latest technology and research results to laymen, for instance at Barcamps and as an invited speaker at innovation fairs. Throughout my career, I have been investigating how new technology and research results can be of benefit for the average user.

Demystifying AI, ML, DL with Vishal Sikka and real world examples

#artificialintelligence

The technology industry is plagued with buzzword bingo in support of the fashion driven nature of the technology beast. Often confusing and occasionally downright ridiculous, we're never going to prevent smart ass marketers, ably supported by their anal-yst surrogates from making stuff up. The least some of us can do is make clear what is under discussion without mindlessly parroting what others say or conflating one concept with another. The latest in this stream of marketing laden garbage is AI or Artificial Intelligence, smeared with ML or Machine Learning and DL or Deep Learning. Add a soupçon of'robotics' just to amp the volume to something people can'get' and you have the potential for an exotic mix that both captivates the sentient mind but can also plant fear.

Surviving the Digital Age: 4 Corporate Transformations

#artificialintelligence

The convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) -- machine learning -- increased global mobile connectivity, the Internet of Things, heightened computing power, virtual and augmented reality, and nanotechnology will produce a data tsunami that will require most organizations to transform how they do business. The magnitude of the coming disruption is mindboggling. One major aspect of this disruption will be the impact on employment and the resulting loss of global consumer purchasing power. According to research from the Martin School at Oxford University and Citi published in January 2016, technology has a high probability of automating 57 percent of the jobs in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development countries, as compared to 47 percent of the jobs in the United States alone. The corresponding high risk of job automation numbers for China is 77 percent, India is 69 percent, South Africa is 67 percent and Ethiopia is 85 percent.

How are banks embracing AI? News CA Today

#artificialintelligence

It was identified by PwC as one of the key developments businesses need to plan for and has found its way into the innovative strategies of KPMG and Deloitte. Banks are increasingly getting in on the game with technologies such as customer-facing chatbots, robotic process automation and predictive data analysis becoming commonplace. Eleanor O'Neill takes a look at some of the ways AI is being adopted by the banking sector. Banks are increasingly using big data to analyse and predict consumer behaviour. Consultancy firm McKinsey cited the case of a bank that used local telecommunications data to improve their underwriting.

Is AI The End Of Jobs As We Know It Or A New Beginning? - Inc42 Media

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is advancing so rapidly that even its developers are being caught off guard. Google co-founder Sergey Brin said in Davos, Switzerland, in January that it "touches every single one of our main projects, ranging from search to photos to ads … everything we do … it definitely surprised me, even though I was sitting right there." The long-promised AI, the stuff we've seen in science fiction, is coming and we need to be prepared. Today, AI is powering voice assistants such as Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Apple Siri, allowing them to have increasingly natural conversations with us and manage our lights, order food, and schedule meetings. Businesses are infusing AI into their products to analyse the vast amounts of data and improve decision-making.

Artificial Intelligence to outperform humans by 2060, says study

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence systems could outperform humans in all tasks within the next 45 years, according to a new study which also suggests that all human jobs will be automated in the next 120 years. According to a survey of over 350 artificial intelligence (AI) researchers, machines are predicted to be better than us at translating languages by 2024, writing high-school essays by 2026, driving a truck by 2027, working in retail by 2031, writing a bestselling book by 2049 and surgery by 2053. However, there is only a five per cent chance that computers will bring about outcomes that may lead to human extinction, researchers said. The survey, by the University of Oxford in the UK and Yale University in the US, was conducted among 352 researchers who had presented their research at the Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems or the International Conference on Machine Learning – the two major conferences in the field of AI. "There is accumulating evidence that machines can overpower human intelligence in complex, though specific tasks," Eleni Vasilaki at the University of Sheffield in the UK, told the'New Scientist'. Also Read: Even'dumb AI' can boost human performance, says study However, there is little evidence that AI with human-like versatility will appear any time soon, Vasilaki said. The survey results showed that researchers in Asia typically gave shorter time frames than those in North America – predicting that AI would outperform humans on all tasks within 30 years, compared with 74 years.

5 Ways Machine Learning Is Reshaping Our World

@machinelearnbot

Who here remembers taking computer programming in school? Whether you learned programming by punching holes in a never ending series of cards, or by writing simple DOS or other computer language commands, the fact remained that computers needed an incredibly precise set of instructions to accomplish a task. The more complicated the task, the more complicated your instructions had to be. Machine learning is inherently different. Rather than telling a computer exactly how to solve a problem, the programmer instead tells it how to go about learning to solve the problem for itself.

Customer Care and the Growing Role for Chatbots

#artificialintelligence

During SpeechTEK, which was held in late April in Washington, D.C., hundreds of customer care professionals gathered to wrestle with the shifting sand that is customer care, particularly the challenges and opportunities presented by automation in the form of virtual assistants or chatbots. The conference provided insights that included answers, objections, and more questions. Companies spend massively on customer care and automation will reduce costs. In Tuesday's keynote panel, Cognitive Code's Chief Operating Officer (COO) Brian Garr said industry observers estimate customer care spending to be nearly $500 billion. Everest Group estimated in 2016 that call center spending was $300 to $320 billion annually.

Virtual digital assistants to overtake world population by 2021

#artificialintelligence

Globally, the native digital assistant installed base is set to exceed 7.5 billion active devices by 2021, which is more than the world population according to the US Census Bureau on May 1, 2017. But fear not – Skynet, from the popular Terminator movies, does not feature among the leading digital assistants. Instead, Google Assistant will dominate the voice AI–capable device market with 23.3% market share, followed by Samsung's Bixby (14.5%), Ovum's Digital Assistant and Voice AI–Capable Device Forecast: 2016–21 found that smartphones and tablets clearly lead the voice AI–capable device market, with 3.5 billion active devices in 2016, most of which use Google Now and Apple Siri. However, the use of AI in conjunction with other devices greatly increases consumer engagement and is set to unlock new opportunities, particularly in the home. Ovum expects an exponential uptake of voice AI capabilities among new devices, including wearable, smart home, and TV devices, with a combined installed base of 1.63 billion active devices in 2021, a tenfold increase on 2016.
