Artificial intelligence, more commonly known under AI acronym, has become a very hot topic these days. Forrester Research forecasts a 300 percent growth of AI investment this year. Toyota invests $100 million in fund for AI, UBS is trying to bring AI to its investment bank's operations, while VCs frivolously dream of replacing all of us with AI to cut costs. Some people even feel embarrassed because they have never used or implemented AI in their office or home. Obviously, many cybersecurity vendors leverage the term in an attempt to increase sales and impress their customers.

Apple's new handset is set to be revealed in just a few weeks, but analysts are already predicting that the top version of the phone won't actually be available for months after that. Why A.I and machine learning is the key to unlocking creativity and productivity 7wData
A few weeks ago, the Royal Society of Machine Learning released a report considering the state of Machine Learning in the UK. It contained a lot of valuable information on the history, current implementations and future uses of A.I โ I wanted to share my highlights of that report and investigate what it means for businesses. As with many reports and studies around the'rise of the machine learning' era the Royal Society of Machine Learning's report shouts about the potential that A.I solutions can provide to every corner of our Society, it also highlights legitimate concerns from the same societies that A.I technology is meant to benefit. The report references a survey conducted by the society, which shows that there is an overriding concern, also aired in the national press, that jobs will be stolen by the machine, big businesses will increase profits and the unemployment lines will grow. Other concerns include the possibility for the machine to cause real harm due to a fallibility in their design, for instance, if an automated vehicle were to be hacked and used in a harmful manner or if a medical robot were to misdiagnose an illness harming the patient. The survey also showed that there is a real concern that skill levels will be eroded and that there should be a focus on up-skilling in areas of data science and machine learning, to provide a career path to those who will be displaced by the application of these solutions.
The future of work in the era of artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence is fast changing the world. The premise that intelligent machines will perform tasks more efficiently and at a lower cost than human beings is by no means far-fetched. The challenges facing the workers of the future are multiplying before our very eyes. Some of the most vulnerable jobs in the transition to automation, robotics and artificial intelligence are related to transport, mechanical work in factories and customer service. But no sector, be it health, finance or even the military, is excluded.
AI to transform retail marketing - just not yet
Marketers in retail and ecommerce have big expectations for the impact of artificial intelligence on their sector, with 88% forecasting that it will reinvent the industry and 81% looking to AI to reinvent what their company does. But while big changes are ahead, only 11% of practitioners are classed as already AI marketing experts according to a new survey. This leading group has already shown excellence in its digital capabilities across strategy, organisation and technology. By contrast, 27% are classed as laggards and 28% as novices, with the rest opportunists. The event horizon when AI becomes mainstream seems likely to be late 2018 and, even then, most plans are focused on the automation of existing marketing activities, rather than innovative new ways of delivering the customer experience.
Neuroevolution: A different kind of deep learning
Early price ends August 4. Neuroevolution is making a comeback. Prominent artificial intelligence labs and researchers are experimenting with it, a string of new successes have bolstered enthusiasm, and new opportunities for impact in deep learning are emerging. Maybe you haven't heard of neuroevolution in the midst of all the excitement over deep learning, but it's been lurking just below the surface, the subject of study for a small, enthusiastic research community for decades. And it's starting to gain more attention as people recognize its potential. Put simply, neuroevolution is a subfield within artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) that consists of trying to trigger an evolutionary process similar to the one that produced our brains, except inside a computer. In other words, neuroevolution seeks to develop the means of evolving neural networks through evolutionary algorithms. When I first waded into AI research in the late 1990s, the idea that brains could be evolved inside computers resonated with my sense of adventure. At that time, it was an unusual, even obscure field, but I felt a deep curiosity and affinity. The result has been 20 years of my life thinking about this subject, and a slew of algorithms developed with outstanding colleagues over the years, such as NEAT, HyperNEAT, and novelty search. In this article, I hope to convey some of the excitement of neuroevolution as well as provide insight into its issues, but without the opaque technical jargon of scientific articles. I have also taken, in part, an autobiographical perspective, reflecting my own deep involvement within the field.

Artificial intelligence is progressing so rapidly that there are new developments, ideas, and breakthroughs almost every week. As AI becomes more present than futuristic and intertwines with our everyday lives, it's hard to stay on top of the most current research. But you don't need to miss out - here's an update to fill you in on what's been going on this week: Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's clash continues as they argue over the future of artificial intelligence. It would appear that the overly publicised disagreement comes down to one thing - both business men protecting their brands. Musk has been very vocal about his worries about the future of AI, saying "I keep sounding the alarm bell, but until people see robots going down the street killing people, they don't know how to react."

Before the invention of the computer, most experimental psychologists thought the brain was an unknowable black box. You could analyze a subject's behavior--ring bell, dog salivates--but thoughts, memories, emotions? That stuff was obscure and inscrutable, beyond the reach of science. So these behaviorists, as they called themselves, confined their work to the study of stimulus and response, feedback and reinforcement, bells and saliva. They gave up trying to understand the inner workings of the mind. They ruled their field for four decades. Then, in the mid-1950s, a group of rebellious psychologists, linguists, information theorists, and early artificial-intelligence researchers came up with a different conception of the mind.
