One-Trial Correction of Legacy AI Systems and Stochastic Separation Theorems

We consider the problem of efficient "on the fly" tuning of existing, or {\it legacy}, Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems. The legacy AI systems are allowed to be of arbitrary class, albeit the data they are using for computing interim or final decision responses should posses an underlying structure of a high-dimensional topological real vector space. The tuning method that we propose enables dealing with errors without the need to re-train the system. Instead of re-training a simple cascade of perceptron nodes is added to the legacy system. The added cascade modulates the AI legacy system's decisions. If applied repeatedly, the process results in a network of modulating rules "dressing up" and improving performance of existing AI systems. Mathematical rationale behind the method is based on the fundamental property of measure concentration in high dimensional spaces. The method is illustrated with an example of fine-tuning a deep convolutional network that has been pre-trained to detect pedestrians in images.

An official from a suburban Minneapolis mosque where an early morning explosion occurred says the blast happened in the imam's office during the first prayer of the day. The Star Tribune reports that Mohamed Omar, executive director of the Dar Al-Farooq Islamic Center in Bloomington, says the center occasionally receives threatening calls and emails. Bloomington police Chief Jeff Potts said Saturday that investigators are trying to determine the cause of the blast. Authorities say the explosion damaged one room but it didn't hurt anyone. Asad Zaman, director of the Muslim-American Association of Minnesota, says the organization is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Parsing gender stereotypes in Japan's media landscape
Tomomi Inada's resignation as defense minister ended a tenure that often made reporters wonder if her transgressions had more to do with ignorance than with incompetence. It would be wrong to associate her failures with her sex, though there were some in the media who harped on her fashion sense or supposed emotional instability as indications that she wasn't suitable for the job. Inada didn't actively discourage these indications. In June, she addressed the second plenary session of the International Institute of Strategic Studies' Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, where she expressed in English how privileged she felt to "share the podium" with other defense ministers, namely Marise Payne of Australia and Sylvie Goulard of France, saying that "We belong to the same gender … the same generation and, most importantly, we are all good looking." As mentioned in a June 14 article in the Huffington Post, Mayumi Mori, the Asahi Shimbun Singapore correspondent, noted that Inada was obviously making a joke "to relieve tension," and that there were a few chuckles in the hall.
