For years, the cloud has been considered as the most powerful and disruptive force ever. The cloud delivers the necessary tool set to support the digital evolution on a very technological level to purchase, build and run an infrastructure, platform and software as service. Thus, the cloud must be considered as the foundation, the non-discussable requirement! For IT as well as business decision makers, however, the voluntary exercise now is artificial intelligence (AI). Only if they can collect, aggregate, process and make use of the companies' knowledge as well as the knowledge of the surrounding environments in an automated way, they will be competitive in the future.

Developed democracies are settling an increased number of refugees, many of whom face challenges integrating into host societies. We developed a flexible data-driven algorithm that assigns refugees across resettlement locations to improve integration outcomes. The algorithm uses a combination of supervised machine learning and optimal matching to discover and leverage synergies between refugee characteristics and resettlement sites. The algorithm was tested on historical registry data from two countries with different assignment regimes and refugee populations, the United States and Switzerland. Our approach led to gains of roughly 40 to 70%, on average, in refugees' employment outcomes relative to current assignment practices.

Instead, it is likely that the company has already shipped the product to your nearest warehouse because it thought that you might order it. Magical as this might sound, it is the application of a technology known as demand sensing.

Lenders in the U.S. overwhelmingly plan to expand financing activity this year. According to new research from Magilla Loans, which offers an anonymous search engine data for both home and business loans, a survey of mortgage and business lenders found plans to originate more than half a trillion dollars' worth of loans in 2018. According to the report, 88 percent of lenders plan to lend more in 2018 than they did in 2017, and more than a third (36 percent) said they plan to lessen requirements for loan approval. While the data included business loans, Magilla noted that mortgages are the main driver behind this trend. So while lending volume in the U.S. might be expanding, gaps in business finance – especially among SMBs – remain.

Anyone who's ever had children will know that every parent needs a break at some point - but a recently resurfaced video from the 1960s seemed to take that idea to new extremes. The footage, taken in 1960 as part of a news report, shows a nurse operating some'High-Tec' baby care equipment in a state-of-the-art nursery in Budapest, Hungary, which was run by the Communist-regime at the time. The video was produced as a prediction of what could be expected from childcare in the future. The imagined equipment can not only move babies from one crib to another at the touch of a button, but can also feed them by lowering a bottle into their arms, leaving no need for mum and dad. The invention is just a prototype, though, with the nursery being used as a demonstration of how robotics could help care for babies.

Malta is set to become the first country in the world to regulate services in the sector of artificial intelligence, blockchain and Internet of Things devices. Parliamentary secretary for financial services Silvio Schembri announced that a legal framework to regulate these sectors will be launched in the coming weeks. He said the law will satisfy anti money laundering and Know Your Client regulations, without stifling technological innovation. "This new regulator will help those who wish to invest in this sector to operate within a legal structure and gain the trust of millions of potential customers all over the world who want to make use of new services related to blockchain technology", Schembri told a blockchain conference in Dubai. During his visit to Dubai, Schembri also met up with representatives from Smart Dubai - an initiative by the Dubai government to promote smart technologies with the lofty ambition of turning the Arab emirate into the happiest city in the world.
