AI can and should augment data analytics on which financial services businesses are now fully engaged, so applying AI can be a natural enhancement of what is already going on. It follows that the pathways can be quite similar, although the technologies deployed may be quite different. AI can offer many benefits to help tackle the main challenges financial institutions face today. All four main areas of attention that the industry now faces, in customer experience, trust and compliance, business reinvention and operational excellence, highlight specific issues or opportunities where one of the AI technologies can offer value.

AI Software Can Now Identify Causes of Stroke And Dementia Via Brain Scans Beebom
The researchers at Imperial College London have developed a new AI (artificial intelligence)-backed software that can identify and measure the severity of small vessel disease, which is one of the most common causes of stroke and dementia, using brain scans with AI can more accurately than all current method. For those unaware, small vessel diseases (SVD) is a common neurological disease among the aged that reduces blood flow to the deep white matter connections of the brain, ultimately killing the brain cells. It progresses with age but can be accelerated by hypertension and diabetes. This is a severe condition and the detection of its causes early could help doctors provide better treatment in an emergency situation, while also being capable of predicting the chances of someone developing dementia or immobility, due to slowly progressive SVD. Commenting on the software, Dr. Paul Bentley, lead author and clinical lecturer at Imperial College London says, This is the first time that machine learning methods have been able to accurately measure a marker of small vessel disease in patients presenting with stroke or memory impairment who undergo CT scanning.

There's often a fine line between hero and villain, and by most accounts, artificial intelligence (AI) is on the villain side, sucking jobs out of the economy. Autonomous car innovations: from jam busters to cures for queasiness
An Oxford University startup, Oxbotica, proposes to solve the problem of liability in a collision involving autonomous vehicles by allowing insurers access to the vast amounts of data the car generates, even allowing them to control a car in real time if it detects a dangerous situation. A recent paper published in Transportation Research found that autonomous cars could bring about the end of congestion with no obvious explanation. These are caused by one driver's unexpected behaviour (most often braking) being copied and exaggerated by following vehicles. The study demonstrated the networked cars were able to slow more gently and not create jams. A recent study published in Nature from Google-backed AI company Deepmind claims to have developed an AI program that resembles the neural GPS system found inside the brain.

"Now Alexa helps you look your best," the product description promises. Stand in front of the camera, take photos of two different outfits with the Echo Look, and then select the best ones on your phone's Echo Look app. Within about a minute, Alexa will tell you which set of clothes looks better, processed by style-analyzing algorithms and some assistance from humans.

Bangalore: Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as the most frequently mentioned theme in discussions among the key disruptive technologies during the first quarter (Q1) of 2018 on Twitter, according to GlobalData study. An analysis from GlobalData's influencer platform revealed that AI was way ahead of other disruptive technologies with more than one-fourth share of overall discussions, followed by Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain and augmented reality. Robotics and analytics were also among the leading themes that were discussed across disruptive portfolio. "AI's domination among influencer mentions is primarily driven by significant discussions related to machine learning. Technologies such as Insurtech, big data and deep learning too have helped AI in witnessing highest discussions on Twitter," said Vaibhav Mathur, Influencer Research Head - GlobalData.
