'Blind' Cheetah 3 robot can climb stairs littered with obstacles: Improved design may be used for exploring disaster zones

#artificialintelligence

Instead, it nimbly "feels" its way through its surroundings in a way that engineers describe as "blind locomotion," much like making one's way across a pitch-black room. "There are many unexpected behaviors the robot should be able to handle without relying too much on vision," says the robot's designer, Sangbae Kim, associate professor of mechanical engineering at MIT. "Vision can be noisy, slightly inaccurate, and sometimes not available, and if you rely too much on vision, your robot has to be very accurate in position and eventually will be slow. So we want the robot to rely more on tactile information. That way, it can handle unexpected obstacles while moving fast." Researchers will present the robot's vision-free capabilities in October at the International Conference on Intelligent Robots, in Madrid.

The coming of conscious machines

#artificialintelligence

Mankind has gone through three distinct turning points in its evolutionary history -- discovered fire 100,000 years ago; developed language 10,000 years ago, and invented wheel 5,000 years ago -- which triggered multitudes of other advances that have revolutionised human existence. Since then, within the overall arc of human history, not much seems to have changed. Else, we wouldn't be living like those who lived five millennia ago, with parents and pals, amidst cities, markets and governments. And, we wouldn't fear death, share gossip, build relationships and celebrate birthdays like those in the past. Isn't it a trivia that lot has changed without much remaining the same?

IBM at Wimbledon 2018: Partnership and Innovation

#artificialintelligence

For 29 years IBM has been the official supplier of Information Technology and consultant to the All England Club and The Championships, Wimbledon. Through the collection and analysis of data at Wimbledon, combined with AI insights based on player personality traits and what has been written in the media about tennis greats, IBM have informed a series of short discussions with Sky Sports experts. Find out what tennis players have in common with their counterparts from Football, F1, Golf and Rugby and what they can learn from each other when it comes to performing under pressure, reaction times and career longevity. It's that nervy time that arrives every two or four years when England's footballers' ability to deal with the pressure of penalties will be questioned. Could they learn from tennis great Serena Williams?

Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence and IoT, ready for new models of business?

#artificialintelligence

Blockchain, artificial intelligence and IoT are the future, but are companies ready for the legal issues relating to the new model of business? The Internet of Things obliges companies to change their models of business since one-off contractual relationships where they were selling a product are replaced by long term relationships for the provision of services with continous exchanges of data, potential liabilities and contractual issues. This is enhanced by artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies which increase the potential benefits, but at the same time also with higher reliance on the proper functioning of technologies. The shift that is happening in any business can be quite well represented in the image below of a "pizza as a service". Even the more traditional businesses might turn into a service if for instance, products are no longer purchased as part of specific order, but on the basis of a monthly fee which is calculated on the needs of the purchaser through sensors that collect information on the actual consumption of each product.

5 leading AI application areas and why you must care about them

#artificialintelligence

Due to its deep learning and independent decision-making capabilities, applications of AI in different business areas are seeing a steady rise in ubiquity in some industries. The concept of artificial intelligence or machines that aim to emulate human thinking is undergoing vigorous research and is a topic that is increasingly being associated with the Internet of things. An AI enabled IoT system extends the functionality and value of an organization's offering, without the need for committing additional resources to achieve the increased value. This is exemplified by under Armour(UA) and IBM's collaboration on the UA Record app, which is an AI-based personal fitness coaching system, that uses a variety of sensor data to suggest highly personalized, context-relevant fitness activities to users. Such applications of AI are going to be more commonplace in the future as they are already having a significant impact on many industries.

r/CPChain_Official - CPC - A silent giant the future leader of IoT

#artificialintelligence

This is going to be an extensive article on my case on why CPC is a golden investment opportunity at the moment and why I think it is extremely undervalued. In my opinion, an increase of 50-100x by the end of the year, especially if you get in now, is not impossible. There are multiple factors to why CPC is going to be a golden investment, everything from its technology, its team, the market they are targeting and the fact that it is not yet known by many people - so if you are interested, spend a couple of minutes and delve into the case on why CPC will be one of the top gainers 2018. Cyber-Physical Chain (CPChain) connects blockchain with IOT to enhance the distributed systems in that realm. This technology has multiple advantages, firstly it will reduce the cost of interconnected systems, increase the value of data sharing, and enhance security and data sharing. The problem that CPC solves is the scalability issues along with the security and real-time issues of the current IOT. By combining the three technologies: blockchain, Internet of Things and distributed encryption storage and computing, it builds a new generation of Internet of Things, which can provide entire solutions for data acquisition, sharing and application in IoT industry. CPC also incorporates AI(Artificial intelligence) to establish data interconnection and solves many hard points in the industry.

How Artificial Intelligence Could Help Us Live Longer

#artificialintelligence

What if we could generate novel molecules to target any disease, overnight, ready for clinical trials? Imagine leveraging machine learning to accomplish with 50 people what the pharmaceutical industry can barely do with an army of 5,000. It's a multibillion-dollar opportunity that can help billions. The worldwide pharmaceutical market, one of the slowest monolithic industries to adapt, surpassed $1.1 trillion in 2016. In 2018, the top 10 pharmaceutical companies alone are projected to generate over $355 billion in revenue.
