Google has launched Android Pie, the ninth iteration of its mobile operating system. It follows on from Android Oreo โ both alphabetically and in its sweet/ dessert theme โ yet its predecessor never achieved a significant market share. More than 85 per cent of all smartphones sold this year run a version of Android, but less than 13 per cent of all Android phones use the Oreo OS. With Android Pie initially only available on Google Pixel phones, it is unlikely to capture much of the market in the coming weeks. But when its wider release comes later this year, a number of features could tempt people to upgrade.

The conspiracy theory takes in much of the contemporary world, but its central beliefs are that there is a huge undiscovered paedophile ring among the elite and that Donald Trump is uncovering it. The video claims to know who is behind the baseless conspiracy theory and suggests that those associated with Anonymous may launch attacks on people who are sharing it. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph.

For the developers of self-driving vehicles, semi-trucks are a potential low-hanging fruit. Although big rigs are imposingly, intimidatingly huge, they also predominantly run on freeways and other fixed routes that are simpler to automate. Fleet managers are easier to convince with rational, financial arguments than individual car buyers. Today, a new startup, Kodiak Robotics, is edging out of stealth, announcing $40 million in financing, and telling the world it's going to pick and ship that fruit. The company is worth watching because it's cofounded by Don Burnette, who also cofounded Otto, a trucking startup acquired by Uber in 2016, and particularly notable because it led to a high-profile legal spat in the nascent autonomous vehicle industry.
How GDPR will change the way we build machine learning algorithms
On Tuesday, a new report from O'Reilly outlined the current state of machine learning adoption in the enterprise and how recent political moves have affected it. With the EU's recent General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) mandates, more companies will begin to implement privacy safeguards into their machine learning practices. The new policies, however, happen to coincide with more tools and methods evolving that deal with privacy-preserving analytics and machine learning, the report noted. The report noted that GDPR pushes for "privacy by design," meaning that data protection should be included when a system is being developed, rather than be added later. Similarly, more businesses are taking interest in privacy-preserving analytic methods.

Seattle's Living Computers: Museum Labs recreates the 80s
The world of an 80s teenager was one of arcade machines, LPs and Nintendo game consoles. And now you can step back in time and enter that world thanks to a computer museum that has recreated it using a series of fascinating exhibitions. They include an 80s classroom with'state-of-the-art' Apple IIe computers, a'friend's basement' that contains wood-panelled walls and a classic Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) console, and a videogame arcade. A typical basement from the 1980s has been recreated at the Living Computers: Museum Labs in Seattle. There is also a 1980s classroom packed with Apple IIe computers.
