At the star-studded premiere of the Hollywood blockbuster "Warcraft" last Monday, Ben Schulz walked the red carpet as a relative unknown. That is, until he opened his mouth. He heard that Jamie Lee Curtis was in attendance, dressed as an orc shaman straight out of the film. While Curtis isn't in the movie, she's reportedly a big fan of "World of Warcraft," the hugely popular online game that's part of the video game series that inspired the film. To prove it, she and her son were making their way down the red carpet in green face paint, shouting the most celebrated battle cry in the game: "Leeroy Jenkins!" Schulz, his long blond hair in a ponytail and his bushy beard nicely combed, made his way over to Curtis.

Trainee robot office manager 'Betty' monitors staff in Milton Keynes

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Appealing to your manager's human nature to get a day off work could get a whole lot more difficult in the future - because they may not be human at all. A robot office manager, named Betty, is being tested by a business in Milton Keynes for two months to help patrol the corridors and monitor its staff. The robot, developed by engineers at the University of Birmingham, uses artificial intelligence to help it keep track of where people are in the office, who is at their desk and keep tabs on clutter. Betty the robot (pictured), developed by researchers at the University of Birmingham, is working as an office manager at the Transport Systems Catapult in Milton Keynes. While there are many who fear robots are on the verge of stealing our jobs, it seems they have a weak spot - flat packed furniture.

Machine learning is the new Big Data

#artificialintelligence

You can almost hear the whooshing sound as the technology industry is sprinting to the marketplace with new solutions to help the enterprise garner useful and intelligent insights from their data. Analytics, Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) delivered in a simplistic form is what companies are demanding. To meet this mandate, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. (HPE) has developed Haven OnDemand, which offers the latest technology in a simplified platform for developers. Jeff Veis, VP of Big Data Platform Solutions, HP Software, at HPE, spoke to John Furrier and Dave Vellante, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during HPE Discover 2016 Las Vegas to discuss Big Data and the needs of the enterprise. Furrier began the interview by asking Veis about the driving force behind the need for machine learning.

The Latest: Siri Updated in Artificial-Intelligence Rivalry

#artificialintelligence

Analysts are saying that Apple's upcoming updates to its Siri voice assistant should help the company address criticisms that it can't compete on artificial intelligence. Apple is now opening Siri to apps made by other companies, and like Google and Microsoft, it's bringing the digital assistant to desktop and laptop computers. It's also making Siri smarter by using what Apple calls differential privacy. Patrick Moorhead of Moor Insights & Strategy explains it as Apple using non-personal information in aggregate to teach Siri new tricks, then having all the personalization take place on the individual device. It's in contrast to Google's approach of doing everything over the internet -- that is, in the "cloud."

Human learning can foster smarter artificial intelligence: Study Latest Tech News, Video & Photo Reviews at BGR India

#artificialintelligence

Researchers including one of Indian-origin have provided a fresh insight into how human learning can foster smarter artificial intelligence (AI). Recent breakthroughs in creating artificial systems that outplay humans in a diverse array of challenging games have their roots in neural networks inspired by information processing in the brain. Now, researchers from Google DeepMind and Stanford University have updated a theory originally developed to explain how humans and other animals learn. First published in 1995, the theory states that learning is the product of two complementary learning systems in the brain. The first system gradually acquires knowledge and skills from exposure to experiences, and the second stores specific experiences so that these can be replayed to allow their effective integration into the first system.
