A new bill will ban huge swathes of sex acts from UK porn. The Digital Economy Bill looks to ban anything that wouldn't be allowed on a commercially-available DVD. That seems to limit adult content in a number of ways, banning things including female ejaculation and the sight of menstrual blood from all pornographic videos. While there are no strict guidelines as to what acts and images can't be shown on commercial DVDs, adult film producers have found that they have had to cut almost all kinds of non-conventional videos from their films. Such restrictions include the "four-finger rule", for instance, which limits the number of digits that can be placed into any orifice while on video. Fortunately, the products on this list might be deemed hot for another reason. They've left a (mostly) positive impression these past 12 months. Intelligent robots could do all of the hard work for novel writers in the future. Author and technology expert Robin Sloan claims it is only a matter of time until AI are tasked with writing the bulk of our emails, documents, and even writers' novels. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore', showcased an AI he taught to write a dystopian science fiction novel. Mr Sloan created fed the writing bot a back catalogue of science-fiction magazines from the 1960s and 1970s. The programme digested the material and and learned the style of the old stories within.

Russia has showed off its latest weapon in the arms race with NATO - a remotely controlled robot tank, which will be deployed on the border with Poland. A Russian Ministry of Defence video on Youtube shows troops from the Strategic Missile Forces using the new technology in the Kaliningrad enclave, where Vladimir Putin recently sited several nuclear-capable Iskander missiles. The Russian Ministry of Defence said it had the'ability to direct weapons, accompany and hit targets in automatic and semi-automatic modes as it is equipped with electro-optical and radar reconnaissance'. The Russian Defence Ministry have been showing off the robot tank on Youtube. The unmanned tank has four rocket launchers and a 7.62mm gun and can work 24/7 without the need to rest The weapon station can be guided, it can carry out supportive tasks and it can destroy targets in automatic or semiautomatic control systems. Platforma-M is equipped with optical-electronic and radio reconnaissance locators, which enable the Russian robot to perform combat tasks during the night without unmasking itself.

Death by selfie sounds like a scene from one of the Final Destination movies but, apparently, it's actually a thing. In 2014, 15 people died while snapping a selfie, followed by 39 people in 2015, and 73 in the first eight months of 2016. So what, if anything, can be done about this escalating trend? That's what a new research project carried out by researchers in India wants to find out. "There was a news article that was circulated in my research group about a death by selfie during summer 2016," Ponnurangam Kumaraguru, a professor at Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology in Delhi, told Digital Trends.

Nissan is selling its stake in the auto parts company Calsonic Kansei as it casts off noncore businesses to focus on electric vehicles and self-driving cars. The automaker is hiving off its 41 percent stake to the U.S. buyout firm KKR, which is buying the Japan-based Calsonic in a deal valued at about $4.5 billion (nearly ¥500 billion), Nissan said Tuesday. KKR is paying ¥1,860 per share for Calsonic, which makes vehicle interiors, climate control systems, compressors, exhaust systems and electronics. That is a 28 percent premium on Calsonic's closing share price Tuesday. Calsonic -- which has about 22,000 employees and ¥1.05 billion in annual sales -- also supplies other automakers, including Renault, Isuzu, Daimler and General Motors.

Employees of Datatonic, a Europe-based data analytics consultancy, recently participated in a week-long hackathon ("Data in Motion Hack Week") organized by Traffic for London (TfL), that city's official transport authority. As you might expect, the goals of the hackathon included stimulating developer creativity to overcome, through innovative use of public-cloud infrastructure and open data, high-priority TfL challenges such as limited overall transport capacity, endemic road congestion and air-quality degradation. Most of the other teams chose to focus on data mashups or visualizations to give London residents information for making better route decisions during their commutes. The Datatonic hackers, in contrast, looked to machine learning (ML). By augmenting real-time data visualization with an ML model, they found they could predict areas of congestion during the morning and evening commutes, which currently stand at 30 million daily journeys, and more than 1 million net-new journeys expected by 2018.

Seeing the long queues outside ATMs and the confusion and chaos about the availability of cash in the wake of the demonetisation, two engineering graduates from Coimbatore's Government College of Technology decided to do something to help the struggling people. "With the ongoing mess in the country, we thought'why not build something to help ease the situation'. Though there are other interfaces that dispense similar information, ATMBot is different because it is crowd-funded. Users need not download an extra application on their phone to use it," says Abishek Muthian, who founded the city-based start-up Timebender Technologies India Private Limited along with Aravindhan Ramachandran. After his graduation, Abishek decided to venture out on his own.
