Startup uses AI to relieve burden of security data analysis - SiliconANGLE

Loom Systems Ltd. is joining the growing ranks of companies applying artificial intelligence to the task of making sense out of the mass of data that overwhelms security professionals. The company today is announcing an operational analytics platform for real-time detection and resolution that reads log files and looks for anomalies. The Tel Aviv-based company says it does this by mathematically modeling the ways in which humans analyze such data, and then simulating the process via machine learning. It correlates each metric to baseline patterns in order to detect anomalies and predict future trends. The result is what the company claims is a 45 percent reduction in mean-time-to-resolution and a 93 percent reduction in log file clutter.

"The investment will be by a Japanese consortium that will also include manufacturing equipment makers," an unidentified source told Reuters last week. Japan was expected to invest in both private and public funds and focus on developing U.S. infrastructure by way of high-speed railways in Texas, California and the northeastern U.S. The plan would also create closer ties between Japan and the U.S. by including global infrastructure investment, artificial intelligence research, and collaboration on topics like space exploration and cybersecurity, according to Reuters.

Newly-discovered radiation levels in one of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant's reactors are stunningly high, the Japan Times and others have reported. The space is so radioactive that even a robot couldn't last two hours, let alone a human. It was on March 11, 2011, that the coastal power plant in Japan's Fukushima Prefecture was hit by a tidal wave, which not only cut off the plant's electrical power, also took out the generators that provided its backup power. The natural disaster triggered the meltdown of three reactors at the plant. The new readings come from inside reactor two, where the radiation levels are 530 sieverts per hour, according to Tepco, the Tokyo Electric Power Company.
