Demand for artificial intelligence goes global - Information Age

Synechron Inc., the global financial services consulting and technology services provider, has announced that nearly 60 financial institutions are set to implement artificial intelligence (AI) technology โ€“ with interest spanning across four continents. Currently, 57 financial institutions based in Europe, the US, Middle East and Asia are being helped to adopt AI technology by Synechron: 28% of these firms are based in Europe with UK headquartered institutions accounting for nearly half (45%) of the interest in Europe, and 23% of interest worldwide. And, 25% of firms set to implement AI are also based in the United States. Of the 57 firms looking to implement AI, 30% are focused on robotic process automation, and another 30% is focused on chatbots. A further 26% involve natural language processing or natural language generation.

Will.I.Am is trying to get into your house. The Black Eyed Pea has already attempted, mostly unsuccessfully, to get onto people's wrists, around their phones and into their cars. But now he appears to be launching perhaps his most ambitious project: running people's homes. His company, i.am, has bought connected home startup Wink. That firm makes an app and a hub that are intended to talk to all the other smart products inside a person's home, unifying them all under one operating system.

Amazon's range of smart speakers and their artificial intelligence assistant Alexa have proved to be a huge sales hit. But the product is still a shadow of what the man in charge - Dave Limp - and indeed their owners, hope it will become. "We have thousands of engineers inside Amazon adding to [its] capability every day and then another tens of thousands of developers adding to the skills," he tells the BBC. If you live in San Francisco, New York, or Vancouver, you probably don't have as much space as you want.


Google to Support AI Startups Through Developers Launchpad Studio

A few weeks after the tech giant admitted that it is already running its own machine learning investment fund, it now announced to the public its hands-on Launchpad Studio program which aims to provide support and resources to hungry AI startups. In the company's Google Developers Blog post on Wednesday, Google claimed that the program's mission is to "enable startups from around the world to build great companies." "In the last 4 years, we've learned a lot while supporting early and late-stage founders. From working with dynamic startups--such as teams applying Artificial Intelligence technology to solving transportation problems in Israel, improving tele-medicine in Brazil, and optimizing online retail in India--we've learned that these startups require specialized services to help them scale," a part of the post read. The Launchpad Studio is another initiative from Google that shows the company's commitment to artificial intelligence and machine learning studies.

I have met many very successful ML professionals who have developed their skills by self-learning, studying hard and applying their innate scientific skills to apply ML algorithms. Also, Matlab can get things done very quickly. ICA (ICA is a technique to separate linearly mixed sources) can be accomplished very quickly in spite of the significant work that would go into coding such analysis initially. One person I know who has a strong background in Math and Physics is a team leader at Goldman Sachs, having locked himself away for close to six months only to come out a darn good applied data scientist.

First molecules discovered by next-generation artificial intelligence to be developed into drugs

Thursday, July 27, 2017, Baltimore, Md., Insilico Medicine ("Insilico"), a Baltimore-based leader in artificial intelligence ("AI") for drug discovery and biomarker development, is pleased to announce a multi-year drug development agreement with the biotechnology company Juvenescence AI Limited ("Juvenescence AI"). Juvenescence AI will develop the first compounds generated by Insilico's deep-learned drug discovery engines, which train over structural, functional, and phenotypic data in order to predict the biological activity of compounds. Insilico's platforms incorporate new AI techniques such as Generative Adversarial Networks in order to generate novel compounds with desired pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties. As part of the agreement, Juvenescence Limited ("Juvenescence"), the parent company of Juvenescence AI, made a direct investment into Insilico to further advance Insilico's drug discovery platform and develop a set of companion multi-modal disease biomarkers.
