LG U to Compete in AI Market with Humanoid Robot
LG U announced on September 28 that, Pepper, the world's first social humanoid robot that can understand and react to human emotions, is going to be equipped with its artificial intelligence (AI) platform and meet customers at six different locations starting from October 11. Specifically, the locations are the flagship store of LG U, Woori Bank, Kyobo Bookstore, Gachon University Gil Hospital, Lotte Department Store, and e-mart. Pepper is scheduled to provide weather information and search the Web for customers, say hello to them and recommend products and so on based on the AI platform developed by LG U . Earlier, the other two major South Korean mobile carriers, that is, SK Telecom and KT, entered the AI service market by launching AI speakers. LG U adopted the robot to compete with them. "We decided to approach AI from a different direction in view of profit expectations and users' actual needs and our AI platform is expected to be utilized in an increasing number of fields with the companies representing six different fields of industry participating in the utilization of it," said Song Dae-won, who is leading AI device development at LG U as a managing director.
Air Strike Kills Seven Hezbollah Fighters in Syria-Sources
BEIRUT (Reuters) - An air strike carried out by an unidentified warplane killed seven Hezbollah fighters in eastern Syria, three sources familiar with the incident told Reuters on Monday. The identity of the warplane was not confirmed, but the sources did not rule out the possibility that it was Russian "friendly fire". The sources did not say when the air strike happened. The air strike struck a Hezbollah position in eastern Homs province, where the Iran-backed Lebanese group is fighting Islamic State alongside the Syrian and Russian militaries. Asked about a report that a U.S. drone carried out the strike, the spokesman of the U.S.-led Coalition said the location was outside its area of operations.
AyoPoligami: Dating app encouraging polygamy causes a stir in Indonesia
Scrolling through dating websites a year ago, Indonesian app developer Lindu Pranayama realised there were a lot of married men looking for another wife - but few online services to meet their needs. "When they go to regular dating sites, they don't see options for polygamy. They don't see options for finding second, third or fourth wives," he said. Enter "AyoPoligami" - a new smartphone app developed by Pranayama, which aims to "bring together male users with women who are willing to make'big families'." Loosely translated as "Let's do polygamy", the Tinder-style dating app has already stirred up controversy since its April launch in Indonesia, where over 80 percent of the 250 million population are Muslim and polygamy is legal.

Tata-backed start-up plans new AI services
Niki.ai, a Ratan Tata-backed artificial intelligence start-up, has lined up 10 new services including in banking, insurance, stockbroking, healthcare and e-tailing to get ahead of its Indian competitors like Arya.ai and Snapshopr, Nitin Babel, director and co-founder said. "We are already providing 15 services for sectors such as aviation, entertainment and ride industry," Mr. Babel said in an interview. "The 10 new services will be rolled out during next year." Its product, named Niki, is a bot that lets users order anything through a chat interface. The start-up leverages natural language processing and machine learning technologies to converse with customers over a chat interface and places their orders.
