Making Ruuh converse like humans – The Microsoft India Blog

It's easy to take the ability to converse for granted. Being able to listen to a question, detect the underlying emotion, infuse the speaker's background and apply it in the right context may seem simple for humans, but computers have struggled with it. If chatbots can understand the context, identify emotions, select the right responses to create genuine engagement, the relationship users share with them can be changed forever. It can enable a chatbot to tap into deeper layers of human interactions and create more value through their conversations. Our research team worked on a new model that helps our desi Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based chatbot Ruuh speak like a human, respond with contextual awareness, and hold a free-flowing conversation with users.

As we know, I n the 1950s, Alan Turing came up with the method to do just that – The Turing Test remains the most renowned process to distinguish humans from machines. Big Data and Machine Learning Take on HIV

A vaccine still isn't in sight, though a lot of progress has been made in controlling the disease by harnessing broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) that can mute many of its variations. To build a better bnAb, or create the right combination of them, researchers must find ways to counter those mutations. For that, a team from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), alongside collaborators from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), have turned to big data. Using data from 20,000 sequences drawn from nearly 2,000 HIV-positive patients, they were looking to map out the virus's "spike," or the protein protrusions on the surface of its molecules that bnAbs are designed to target. The researchers sought "An accurate representation of viral fitness as a function of its protein sequences (a fitness landscape), with explicit accounting of the effects of coupling between mutations."

Japanese company HIS opened'Hen na Cafe', meaning Strange Cafe, in the country's capital Thursday. The robot, which goes by the name Sawyer, is composed of an arm with multiple degrees of freedom and a tablet computer for a face. In footage posted online, the machine can be seen whizzing and whirring as it picks up a cup placed on a holder by customers. Steaming hot water then flows through the filter from above, making a fresh cup of robo-coffee. Confirming many people's fears about automation, HIS says this fully-automated system has been installed to reduce the number of human workers needed to run the cafe, according to AP.


Transforming business through artificial intelligence

IN A 2016 survey commissioned by software giant Microsoft, the company discovered that business leaders in Singapore are showing urgency in embracing the "Fourth Industrial Revolution", defined as the use of technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), advanced data analytics, and mixed reality, all powered by cloud computing. Three quarters of business leaders believe that they need to transform to a digital business to enable future growth. In just a few short years, both artificial intelligence and machine learning have become more efficient and accessible by more people. Jordi Ribas, Microsoft's corporate vice president in charge of AI products, said when people think of AI, they often think of high-tech, visible products like robots or AI-powered vehicles. What many people don't realise, Mr Ribas said, is that AI also is having a tangible impact on most people's lives through products like search or Microsoft's Office 365 productivity suite of apps.

Demand for digitalized smart cars is growing among Chinese people, but the technology is still rather new and not yet mature, according to a report released Wednesday by a Beijing-based media group AutoR centered on intelligent driving. The report showed more and more Chinese enterprises, like search engine giant Baidu, have become involved in the development of a self-driving experience. In fact, the nation has already embarked on on-and-off highway trials for autonomous vehicles but it is not yet very common, out of safety concerns. At the moment, AI-enabled vehicles can't react swiftly enough, as their systems do not easily recognize complicated road conditions, said Jia Hongbing, founder of AutoR. Artificial intelligence in this case means using computer systems to perform tasks and functions that require human intelligence, explained Jia.


Medopad gets $28M to connect patients and providers with mobile, AI tools

Artificial intelligence healthcare technology company Medopad has just landed $28 million in a Series A funding round with lead investments from China's NWS Holdings. But the company announced that its goal is to raise $120 million in the next few months. This funding comes after Medopad struck a series of 15 trade deals with Chinese firms, collectively worth more than $140 million (100 million pounds). Medopad was a member of the trade delegation that the UK recently sent to Beijing and Shanghai. "We now have several amazing strategic investors in the business, which is a great achievement for us as we gear for significant growth and scale our business," Dan Vahdat, CEO of Medopad, said in a statement.
