HK banking customers say yes to AI and automation but...

Hong Kong bank customers are willing to embrace new digital banking services based on AI and machine learning, according to a new survey by Unisys. The survey found that 60% of Hong Kong respondents are comfortable with a bank using software and algorithms to assess online credit card applications, but only 31% are comfortable with their use for home loans. "The Unisys Banking Insights findings suggest there is a great opportunity for Hong Kong banks to use smart software to lead decision making for commodity products such as credit cards," Unisys Asia-Pacific VP for financial services Richard Parker said. But currently consumers are less willing to use this for life events such as home loan applications which involve larger financial amounts and emotional involvement." Hong Kong consumers are also moderately willing to support data sharing in an open banking environment, but only if they can be assured that privacy and security concerns are met.

Japan looks to compile nursing care plans based on AI analysis

The health ministry is considering the use of artificial intelligence to draw up care plans for nursing care insurance recipients. The ministry will launch a national survey as early as August on how AI is being developed and on examples of AI use for nursing care, ministry officials said. It also plans to compile by the end of the current fiscal year, which runs to March 2019, a report that will assess the effectiveness of AI-based care plans in alleviating the burden of care-givers and preventing worsening conditions in those who need nursing care, the officials said. The report will also list related problems to be tackled. Before an older person certified as needing long-term care can receive nursing care insurance services, a care plan needs to be drawn up.

Since it launched in 2014, Rivigo has built its business by solving complex logistics problems in a country with a huge infrastructure deficit. The company has devised a relay model, wherein a driver works by handing over the truck to another driver at designated pit-stops. The driver then drives the vehicle back to where he came from. This has helped Rivigo bring down the travel time required to move goods significantly.

An Australian man has set a new world record for fastest time to solve a Rubik's cube at just 4.22 seconds. Feliks Zemdegs is a 22-year-old'speedcuber' from Australia who participated in the Cube for Cambodia 2018 event on Saturday in Melbourne. He broke the previous world record of 4.59 seconds by solving a 3x3x3 cube in just 4.22 seconds. Feliks Zemdegs set a world record for fastest time to solve a Rubik's cube at just 4.22 seconds The 22-year-old from Australia broke the previous record at the Cube for Cambodia 2018 event on Saturday in Melbourne. A video captured his record-breaking performance as he sat alongside other speedcubers of all ages.
