Google's AI Cloud Star Leaves After Pentagon Deal Protests
Fei-Fei Li, chief scientist at Google's cloud-computing division, is leaving after controversy over the use of the company's artificial intelligence technology and a deal with the Pentagon. Li, a venerated researcher in the field of AI, is returning to Stanford University, where she was a professor before joining Google about two years ago. Andrew Moore, dean of the school of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh will become head of AI at Google Cloud at the end of 2018, the Alphabet Inc. company said Monday. Moore worked at Google from 2006-2014. In early June, Google retreated from a Pentagon cloud contract following employee protests.
MIT shows how to tackle fake news using AI and ML
After the recent uproar about "fake news", it is again all quiet in India. Well, not until, another lynching or riot happens. Whatsapp is busy spreading the use of it's service, rather than strengthening it. The issue is going to haunt us again, very soon. There are two big components of "fake news": misinformation and extreme bias.
What do we mean by Artificial Intelligence, and what is happening in Market Research?
Ray Poynter will be presenting a paper titled'Problems in Identifying Causality in Observational Data'. This is a topic that NewMR will be exploring over the next year or so. In market research, there is a big shift taking place from questions to observations, which brings many advantages. However, there are some methodological problems and weaknesses with observational data that need to be addressed. This workshop is a one-day workshop spread over two days, with a social evening included.
Why are Data Scientists crucial for AI? - Bizztor
Today, we are talking about the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) – positive or negative – and how it will surpass the human workforce. The possibilities of AI are numerous but everything depends on big data. Big data is still as relevant as it was 10 years ago as it is still underutilized. In the world of science fiction, AI systems often overpower human civilization. Similarly, artificial intelligence is already predominant in the real-world around us.
Philippine firms asked to embrace artificial intelligence
Companies in the Philippines need to adopt technologies like automation and artificial intelligence to get rid of repetitive and redundant processes, a partner of business advisory firm Grant Thornton says. Grant Thornton partner Depender Kumar Depender Kumar, in his presentation during the 8th P&A Grant Thornton Business Forum in Manila, says Philippine companies, including business process outsourcing providers, are slow to embrace automation and struggle to change. "To be honest, if they [BPOs] don't change the way they do things, they will pay locally for the disruption. Most of what is done by the BPOs are repetitive. You don't need a lot of intelligence to do the work that is with you. That is why those jobs are outsourced earlier. At the same time, if you need to survive in that industry, you need to adopt technology along the way," he says.
Trade war or not, China's innovations continue to power ahead
The topic of the Fourth Industrial Revolution topped the agenda last month at the World Economic Forum "Summer Davos", where over 2,000 top-level representatives from politics, business, social sectors and the arts gathered in the Chinese municipality of Tianjin. China has been one of the leading countries in this imminent revolution, characterised by cutting-edge new technologies that are "blurring the queues between the physical, digital and biological spheres", according to forum chairman Klaus Schwab. The Made in China 2025 initiative, for example, has set China's vision to take on global leadership in advanced manufacturing and hi-tech industries. China has rid itself of its "copycat" stigma and has emerged as a global innovation hub in business. In 2017, the internet and technology sector – ranging from ride-hailing to e-commerce, robotics and artificial intelligence – grew at 18 per cent, substantially outpacing the overall economy, which grew 6.9 per cent, according to Xinhua.
Comparing Features of 4 Popular Machine Learning Platforms
As the world is continuing to develop artificial intelligence and machine learning software, India is also keeping up with the growth. The government of India has also started to focus on developing their own plan for AI. Software development companies in India are now focusing on creating artificially intelligent computer programs that may be used to assist human intelligence in fields like healthcare, weather and climate, crowd management, space research, and education. App developers and many app development companies in India, agencies are now coming up with the application of machine learning and AI in their apps to gather public attention and to provide new and customized experiences and new services to their customers through their apps.

AI will create millions more jobs than are lost because of economic growth
AI and related technologies such as robots, drones and autonomous vehicles could provide a net boost to employment in China of around 12% over the next two decades, equating to around 90 million additional jobs. Around 26% of existing jobs in China could be automated over the next 20 years, but this is projected to be more than offset by job creation of 38%, giving an estimated net gain of 12%. Services ( 29%) and construction ( 23%) could see the largest net increases in jobs by 2037 in China, offset by estimated net job losses of around 10% in agriculture. PwC estimates that the boost from AI and related technologies to economic growth in China could create millions of new jobs, more than offsetting displacement of existing jobs. But the report argues there is no room for complacency given the projected scale of disruption to the labor market from these technologies. This new analysis for China contrasts with PwC's earlier research suggesting a broadly neutral net impact of AI and related technologies on jobs in the UK.
China's tech giants spending more on AI than Silicon Valley
China's biggest tech companies have overtaken the giants of Silicon Valley in the race to invest in artificial intelligence and machine learning this year, according to new research for The Daily Telegraph. Collectively, the four big Chinese groups have been involved in $12.8bn of the total, according to data compiled by Pitchbook, a financial data firm. In contrast, their four biggest US rivals – Alphabet, Amazon, Apple and Facebook – have been part of deals in AI totalling just $1.7bn....
