Xineoh offers AI that predicts customer behavior with scary accuracy

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence has been shaking up the marketing world for the last few years, helping automate menial, repetitive tasks, inform better creative decisions, and predict revenue projections. But many of the tools available for that latter category, namely, predictive analytics, have a less-than-stellar accuracy rate. South Africa-based Xineoh has developed a platform for predicting customer behavior with AI. The company claims its technolgoy is more accurate than any other solution available. Xineoh was founded in 2010 and raised $2 million from U.S. and Canadian investors in June 2017.

Composing Your Thoughts - Issue 61: Coordinates

Nautilus

To death and taxes, Benjamin Franklin's binary list of life's certainties, add the expectation that this six-note sequence: Although we ponder ways to avoid or evade Franklin's list of unavoidable events, we generally accept this more benign certainty as immutable. The penultimate note of the tune generates such strong and specific anticipation that you are likely finding it difficult to continue reading without resolving the sequence. That anxious pause is key to composition and music's power. It creates a sense of prophetic certainty that allows musicians to play against expectations by thwarting the expected. The controlled manipulation of certainty and likelihood lurks behind those magical moments in which music has caused a shiver or a tear to fall. By infusing uncertainty or surprise into the mix, musicians literally play on our emotions.

Amazon Fire TV Cube Review: Don't Trade the Remote for Alexa Just Yet

WIRED

If you're thinking of buying the Amazon Fire TV Cube because you're delighted by the idea of having an Amazon Echo and a Fire TV device mashed into one device, let me stop you right there. Alexa on a TV interface demands a level of conversation like no other streaming TV product I've used before. After a few nights of using the Cube, I began to hate the sound of my own voice. Maybe you'll still be delighted by the Cube at first if you buy one. Maybe if you have kids, they'll love shouting at the TV to get their cartoon fix. But there's a good chance you'll end up doing what I did: going back to the fuddy-duddy Fire TV remote, because that's the easiest way to scroll through multiple media options.

How Big Is The Map In 'Assassin's Creed: Odyssey'? Does Size Matter?

Forbes - Tech

The map of Damascus in the first Assassin's Creed was 0.13km². Since then, the map in each successive game has been bigger than the one before. Based on that history, we can expect the map for the upcoming AC: Odyssey to be bigger than last year's brilliant AC: Origins. Dimitras Galatas put together a short video comparing maps from several of the Assassin's Creed games. The map of Greece for Odyssey is shown at 130km², a substantial increase over the tiny map of Damascus and more than 2.5 times as large as AC: Origin's 80km² map of Egypt.

The AI That Spots a Stopped Heart

#artificialintelligence

A woman in Copenhagen hears a loud crash in the next room and rushes in to discover her father sprawled on the floor, unresponsive. She quickly calls Denmark's health-emergency hotline, where a person answers the phone--but a computer is eavesdropping. As the operator runs through a series of questions--the patient's age, physical condition, what he was doing when he fell--the computer quickly determines the man's heart has stopped and issues an alert. "Those human dispatchers have an amazingly hard job," says Andreas Cleve Lohmann, co-founder of Corti SA, a Danish artificial intelligence software house that created the program. "This software can help them save lives."

Cylance, a cybersecurity firm in Irvine, lands $120 million from investors

#artificialintelligence

Cylance, an Irvine-based cybersecurity firm, continues to secure big bucks from investors, this time raising $120 million to fund global expansion, sales and development efforts. Blackstone Tactical Opportunities led the funding round with other investors, according to Cylance's announcement Tuesday, June 19. Cylance uses artificial intelligence to predict cyberattacks on computer networks. Since its debut in 2012, the company has secured millions from investors who believe in the company's algorithmic technology. In 2017, the company reported $100 million in revenue, a first for the startup.

What banking services are needed by rural areas and How fintech tools and technology could enable them ?

#artificialintelligence

Experts believe that technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Internet of things, Cloud Computing, Cloud Robotics, Automation, Biometrics and Quantum Mechanics would change how we tackle our daily chores and services. Let's take a closer look at these advanced technologies that could shape the Fintech Scenario of remote villager's life. Knowing the fact that the unbanked population could also be uneducated and could only converse in the local language, the agent banking has been flourishing. But how about an AI-based app that could help you provide answers to all your banking needs via voice? Simple queries like – What's my savings account balance or Transfer funds to my kid school account would not only help rural people use the banking services but would also make human involvement redundant.

Probabilistic PARAFAC2

arXiv.org Machine Learning

The PARAFAC2 is a multimodal factor analysis model suitable for analyzing multi-way data when one of the modes has incomparable observation units, for example because of differences in signal sampling or batch sizes. A fully probabilistic treatment of the PARAFAC2 is desirable in order to improve robustness to noise and provide a well founded principle for determining the number of factors, but challenging because the factor loadings are constrained to be orthogonal. We develop two probabilistic formulations of the PARAFAC2 along with variational procedures for inference: In the one approach, the mean values of the factor loadings are orthogonal leading to closed form variational updates, and in the other, the factor loadings themselves are orthogonal using a matrix Von Mises-Fisher distribution. We contrast our probabilistic formulation to the conventional direct fitting algorithm based on maximum likelihood. On simulated data and real fluorescence spectroscopy and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry data, we compare our approach to the conventional PARAFAC2 model estimation and find that the probabilistic formulation is more robust to noise and model order misspecification. The probabilistic PARAFAC2 thus forms a promising framework for modeling multi-way data accounting for uncertainty.
