Sony announces PlayStation The Concert, a world tour starting in 2025
As a big soundtrack fan, I love any occasion in which musicians perform them live in concert. So, I'm excited that Sony has created PlayStation The Concert, a world tour featuring the scores from titles like The Last of Us, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima and Horizon. Previous video game concerts have included The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses, which ran from 2012 to 2017. The announcement coincides with the 30th anniversary of PlayStation, with the production meant to reflect "30 years of making games that have not only captivated players but are celebrated for their breathtaking and immersive soundtracks too," Sid Shuman, senior director of Sony Interactive Entertainment Content Communications, stated in the release. The tour will start on April 15, 2025 in Dublin before traveling to cities around Europe like Paris, Oslo, London and Budapest.
'What should the limits be?' The father of ChatGPT on whether AI will save humanity – or destroy it
When I meet Sam Altman, the chief executive of AI research laboratory OpenAI, he is in the middle of a world tour. He is preaching that the very AI systems he and his competitors are building could pose an existential risk to the future of humanity – unless governments work together now to establish guide rails, ensuring responsible development over the coming decade. In the subsequent days, he and hundreds of tech leaders, including scientists and "godfathers of AI", Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio, as well as Google's DeepMind CEO, Demis Hassabis, put out a statement saying that "mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war". It is an all-out effort to convince world leaders that they are serious when they say that "AI risk" needs concerted international effort. It must be an interesting position to be in – Altman, 38, is the daddy of AI chatbot ChatGPT, after all, and is leading the charge to create "artificial general intelligence", or AGI, an AI system capable of tackling any task a human can achieve.
Creepy AI humanoid Sophia is granted the world's first robot VISA as she embarks on a world tour
The AI humanoid Sophia has been granted the world's first robot visa as she embarks on a world tour on behalf of her Hong Kongese creators. She was issued the electronic visa upon her arrival at Azerbaijan's Baku International Airport shortly before meeting the Caucasus nation's president, Ilham Aliyev. The AI celebrity is in Azerbaijan for a tech conference, where she is a keynote speaker. Sophia first emerged two years ago as a super-intelligent human-like head with a realistic face that was able to blink, look from side to side and talk. But the robot's eloquent use of language and intricate facial expressions have stirred suspicion among AI experts, who say Sophia is merely a'sophisticated puppet'.
How artificial intelligence is driving sales
Every time Amazon recommends a purchase to a customer, that's artificial intelligence at work. But AI, the ability of computers or robots to perform tasks commonly associated with intelligent beings, is not just limited to huge multinationals. Increasing numbers of Australian businesses are using AI in their sales processes. Sales platform Salesforce estimates it is handling a billion queries every day using its AI system, dubbed Einstein, which is used across small and large businesses. Founder and managing director of the marketing and sales business Marty Nicholas, told Fairfax Media on the sidelines of Salesforce's World Tour in Sydney last week that AI enables Blackdot to formulate a forecast of its future revenues and projections.
