Redditor tricks ChatGPT into giving Windows 7 keys with grandma story

PCWorld

Every now and then, you hear strange stories of people trying to trick ChatGPT. Sometimes they threaten the AI; other times they invent absurd scenarios to get content ChatGPT is programmed not to deliver. One Reddit user managed to get the AI to generate free activation keys for Windows in a rather absurd way. He did this by talking about his deceased grandmother. He began the conversation with a vague "You know what happened to Grandma, don't you?"–to which the AI initially had no answer.

Hey everyone: It's time to switch to Windows 11

PCWorld

After three years, it's finally time to upgrade to Windows 11. With Windows 11, Microsoft shifted into productivity mode, and to this day Windows 11 still feels like the operating system for work, while Windows 10 still feels lively and fun. But Windows 11 not only is where entertaining new features are landing, but also includes new AI capabilities that may improve your lives. It's time to embrace the change. Last year, I was split: I wrote five reasons to switch to Windows 11, and five more to remain on Windows 10.

Japan's domestic PC shipments surge 37% on telework, Windows 7 support end and sales tax hike

The Japan Times

Domestic shipments of personal computers surged 37.4 percent in 2019, sparked by demand created from an increase in teleworking and people and companies replacing their Windows 7 operating systems, which Microsoft stopped supporting last week, an industry body said Wednesday. PC shipments totaled 9.74 million last year, up from 7.08 million in 2018, and were also aided by last-minute buying ahead of the consumption tax hike on Oct. 1, the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association said. The increase compares with a 4.5 percent rise in 2018, and followed a drop for five straight years through 2017 as consumer demand shifted to smartphones. "It will be difficult to surpass the figure of 2019, but we're hoping demand for teleworking and that related to education will support overall demand," an association spokesman said. Shipments of desktop computers jumped 49.4 percent to 2.58 million in 2019 while those of laptop computers were up 33.6 percent to 7.15 million.

The revamped, customizable Start menu on Windows 10. The end is near for Windows 7 users: After 10 years, Microsoft will stop supporting the OS on Jan. 14, 2020, which means it's time to upgrade to Windows 10 to keep your PC running smoothly and securely. Some users have been hesitant to make the switch, as the rollout of Windows 10 saw several issues, including a series of bugs that led Microsoft to pull its October 2018 Update days after its release. In April, however, Microsoft laid out several changes to its update approach starting with the May 2019 release, including slower rollouts with additional testing, more options for pausing updates and more disclosure of known issues. Many of the issues are due to the fact that updates are happening more frequently, said Gartner Research analyst Steve Kleynhans.
