These computer-generated offspring will only exist in the immersive digital world known as the'metaverse', which is accessed using virtual reality technology such as a headset to make a user feel as if they're face-to-face with the child. They will cost next to nothing to bring up, as they will require minimal resources, according to Catriona Campbell, one of the UK's leading authorities on AI and emerging technologies. In her new book, AI by Design: A Plan For Living With Artificial Intelligence, she argues that concerns about overpopulation will prompt society to embrace digital children. She describes them as the'Tamagotchi generation' -- a reference to the handheld digital pets that became wildly popular among Western youngsters in the late 1990s and the 2000s.

Failure to follow them could be considered a criminal offence, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) said, without offering details on punishments.

Uber patents VR systems to entertain passengers in self-driving cars
Uber is patenting technology it hopes will keep riders entertained during their commutes. Two of their patent applications, which have not yet been approved, hint at the concept of self-driving cars equipped with virtual reality technology, Motherboard reports. The applications are both called'Virtual Reality Experience For a Vehicle' and were filed in 2016. The United States Patent and Trademark Office published them in February. Uber is trying to get virtual reality technology used in self-driving cars patented.

Kick-starting interactive game content with artificial intelligence
BENGALURU: Three computer science dropouts from BITS Pilani in Goa, who founded a tech startup with the aim to create India's first virtual reality operating system, are developing an artificial intelligence engine that can create interactive content for games at a faster pace and with minimal human intervention. The team, which started Absentia in early 2015, worked for three years to integrate virtual reality technology with digital video content for brands and created its own headset, similar to the Oculus Rift virtual reality system. It is now building and testing the artificial intelligence product called Norah AI. In simple terms, Norah AI is a bot that can create game designs and structures in response to simple commands. These include machine-generated storylines, dialogues, characters, weapons and varied game scenes based on text or pictorial inputs.
