Google can now translate text from images on the web

Engadget

Google Translate on the web can now convert text from images. It uses the same tech as the AR Translate tool for Google Lens, which performs real-time translations on smartphones. You'll find the option on the Google Translate website, where you'll see a new Images tab at the top. After uploading a photo or screenshot from your computer, a translation appears that (in most cases) should look about as seamless as the original text. The web interface includes options to copy the text, download the translated image or clear it.

Will chatGPT replace google translate

#artificialintelligence

Recently i discovered a feature in chatGPT which is the ability to translate languages i did a research comparing the two software's chatGPT and google translate In recent years, natural language processing (NLP) technology has made significant advances, allowing for the development of software that can understand and generate human language with increasing accuracy. One example of this is the chatGPT (chat Generative Pre-training Transformer) language model, developed by OpenAI. Another example is Google Translate, a popular translation service offered by Google. Both chatGPT and Google Translate use advanced NLP techniques to process and generate human language, but they differ in their intended use and capabilities. In this article, we will explore the similarities and differences between chatGPT and Google Translate, and examine whether chatGPT has the potential to replace Google Translate in the future.

Google turns to machine learning to advance translation of text out in the real world

#artificialintelligence

Google is giving its translation service an upgrade with a new machine learning-powered addition that will allow users to more easily translate text that appears in the real world, like on storefronts, menus, documents, business cards and other items. Instead of covering up the original text with the translation -- the new feature will instead smartly overlay the translated text on top of the image, while also rebuilding the pixels underneath with an AI-generated background to make the process of reading the translation feel more natural. "Often it's that combination of the word plus the context -- like the background image -- that really brings meaning to what you're seeing," explained Cathy Edwards, VP and GM of Google Search, in a briefing ahead of today's announcement. "You don't want to translate a text to cover up that important context that can come through in the images," she said. To make this process work, Google is using a machine learning technology known as generative adversarial networks, otherwise known as GAN models -- the same technology that powers the Magic Eraser feature to remove objects from photos taken on the Google Pixel smartphones.

Use a web browser plugin to quickly translate text with Amazon Translate

#artificialintelligence

Web browsers can be a single pane of glass for organizations to interact with their information--all of the tools can be viewed and accessed on one screen so that users don't have to switch between applications and interfaces. For example, a customer call center might have several different applications to see customer reviews, social media feeds, and customer data. Each one of these applications are interacted with through web browsers. If the information is in a language that the user doesn't speak, however, a separate application often needs to be pulled up to translate text. Web browser plugins enable customization of this user experience.

Use Terjmat to easily translate text

#artificialintelligence

Terjmat is a multilanguage translation service integrated with the Telegram application that you can use to make chatbot translations easier. The IBM Language Translator service can connect to other IBM services, and these services can be linked to the Telegram application using a Node-RED app. When you link the services, users can easily use the translation app by sending text or voice to your bot. In this tutorial, I walk you through the steps to create a Node-RED boilerplate that's available on IBM Cloud and link Terjmat to a Telegram app as the user interface using Node-RED flows – in under 20 minutes and using only IBM Cloud services. Note: Make sure to create instances of all of the required services for this project before moving to the next steps.

OpenAI's new multitalented AI writes, translates, and slanders

#artificialintelligence

OpenAI's researchers knew they were on to something when their language modeling program wrote a convincing essay on a topic they disagreed with. They'd been testing the new AI system by feeding it text prompts, getting it to complete made-up sentences and paragraphs. Then, says David Luan, VP of engineering at the Californian lab, they had the idea of asking it to argue a point they thought was counterintuitive. In this case: why recycling is bad for the world. "And it wrote this really competent, really well-reasoned essay," Luan tells The Verge.
