Honor Magic 6 Pro Review: Innovative but Inconsistent

WIRED

The Honor Magic 6 Pro is a strange phone. It folds innovative new AI features, secure 3D face unlock, cutting-edge battery tech, and a powerful camera into an expensively sleek body. But the MagicOS software is buggy, the camera is inconsistent, and it's one of the most expensive Android phones on the market. While the Honor Magic 6 Pro has delighted and impressed me over the past couple of weeks, it has also frustrated and confused me. It can be oh-so-slick one minute and trip up the next.

Google's Pixel 4 Dominates the Smartphone Camera Battle -- But Otherwise it's Pretty Boring

TIME - Tech

After years of pretty dull smartphone design, we're finally getting some interesting ideas, like foldable phones, that recall the weird, early days of rotating, flipping and docking devices. The new $799 Google Pixel 4 and larger $899 4 XL, however, are definitely in the "boring" category, at least on first glance. But that's because everything special about these phones lies under the hood. The Pixel 4's standout feature is its software, which closes the gap between itself and the competition, along with an improved pair of cameras that will show you everything your heart desires, even the stars in the night sky. No, really, this phone can take pictures of stars, as long as you're in the right place at the right time.

iPhone X review roundup: Face ID works better than expected

The Guardian

Apple's most expensive smartphone, the £999 iPhone X, is almost ready to land in stores and a few publications specially selected by Apple have been given early access to the phone. So what do they think? Is the iPhone X really the "future of smartphones"? The iPhone X has an all-screen front design with a 5.8in OLED screen, no home button and an odd looking notch at the top for front-facing camera and sensors. The rest of the device resembles the the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, with a dual camera on the glass back.

iPhone X review: Apple's new £1,000 phone almost feels like the future

The Independent - Tech

It's the most anticipated smartphone in years, and its success will be important for Apple. I was one of just a few journalists to be given a chance to spend the last nine days getting to grips with the new iPhone X (written X but pronounced 10). There's quite a bit to say. This is one of the key features on the new phone and it's a winner. I've gone into more detail separately here but the essence is that the Home Button found on all previous iPhones, and the fingerprint sensor, Touch ID, have been removed. Now, a sophisticated facial recognition system means that when you look at the phone, if it recognises you, it unlocks. Other phone manufacturers have included facial recognition but this one is significantly more consistent and reliable.
