The Machine Ethics podcast: Diversity in the AI life-cycle with Caitlin Kraft-Buchman

AIHub

Hosted by Ben Byford, The Machine Ethics Podcast brings together interviews with academics, authors, business leaders, designers and engineers on the subject of autonomous algorithms, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and technology's impact on society. In this episode we're chatting to Caitlin about gender and AI, that technology isn't neutral, using technology for good, diversity creation and exploitation, lived experience expertise, co-creating technologies and AI life cycle, importance of success metrics, international treaties on AI, and more… Alliance is a leader of the UN's Generation Equality Action Coalition Technology & Innovation for Gender Equality. Caitlin was co-chair of the Expert Group for the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67) in 2023 with its first ever priority theme of Technology & Innovation. Caitlin leads the Human Rights Toolbox initiative, an educational platform that supports a global community working for a human rights-based approach to AI – with equity & inclusion at the core of the code. Women at the Table are a leader of the fr feminist AI research Network, with Hubs in Latin America & the Caribbean, Middle East & North Africa, SouthEastAsia, and sister network in Africa, and serves as Civil Society lead for the World Benchmarking Alliance's Collective Impact Coalition for Ethical AI.

SourceLess Blockchain started a partnership with FORMWELT

#artificialintelligence

The foundations of the new Cognitive Web, where the Internet gets much smarter using the power of Artificial Intelligence. FORMWELT is a coding language for language and meaning, that can be spoken by man and machine. It is a linguistic system based on injunction to acquire definition. Its kernel consists of about 320 references: you might think of them as words with concrete meaning which explain each other without any gaps that could hinder the flow of information and construction of precise sense. The kernel is semantically self-sufficient.

Sponsored Roundtable: Artificial Intelligence Tech - AI Summary

#artificialintelligence

Learn how AI innovation is leading to broader market adoption, and how security integrators can take advantage of the trends. Back in 2017, when use and hype of the Artificial Intelligence buzzword really hit the security industry, we wrote: "The uphill climb for today's video surveillance and other manufacturers, who are tasked with integrating and then marketing AI to security integrators and end-users, is how to dispel the pre-conceived perceptions of what Artificial Intelligence really is." This exclusive trends roundtable sponsored by Tyco American Dynamics takes a closer look at this struggle, as well as other aspects of AI technology adoption, with Johnson Controls/Tyco Security Products Manager Jammy DeSousa, as well as veteran integrator Eric Yunag, VP of Technology & Innovation for Convergint Technologies. AI – or better stated, computer vision – can leverage ground truth and sample data to train machine learning models to recognize very specific scene elements or, more importantly, behavioral elements. As technology advances, a VMS without AI will not only become obsolete, but ineffective compared to a VMS that deploys AI features.

The State of Technology & Innovation in Real Estate

#artificialintelligence

The integration and adoption of technology into every industry is inevitable, even in industries that are traditionally relatively slower to adopt like real estate. Tech developments are enabling professionals in the space to be able to facilitate easier, faster, efficient, and more secure deals for all parties involved. Below are some of the emerging technology trends that are being integrated into real estate now, and in the coming years, many of which have been accelerated by the outbreak of COVID-19. The AR/VR spaces have seen tremendous growth, and it seems with the onset of COVID-19 the demand and urgency to roll out these capabilities has only increased. With the need for limited contact during the pandemic, restricted travel, and work from home trends, it is only natural that AR/VR trends will continue to surface in the real estate industry.

Why Apple And Microsoft Are Moving AI To The Edge

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) has traditionally been deployed in the cloud, because AI algorithms crunch massive amounts of data and consume massive computing resources. But AI doesn't only live in the cloud. In many situations, AI-based data crunching and decisions need to be made locally, on devices that are close to the edge of the network. AI at the edge allows mission-critical and time-sensitive decisions to be made faster, more reliably and with greater security. The rush to push AI to the edge is being fueled by the rapid growth of smart devices at the edge of the network--smartphones, smart watches and sensors placed on machines and infrastructure.

Infographic: The Countries Best Prepared For Autonomous Vehicles

#artificialintelligence

A few years ago, the concept of a driverless car was more than likely the realm of a science-fiction movie. In China, Daimler has been granted a license to test its self-driving cars on Beijing's public roads while in the United States, about 50 companies are testing autonomous vehicles in California. As the technology becomes more widespread, which countries are best prepared to harness it? Even though Europe isn't attracting as much attention as the U.S., a KPMG study found that the Netherlands is actually the country with the highest level of readiness for autonomous driving. The study rated countries on 26 variables within 4 pillars: policy & legislation, technology & innovation, infrastructure and consumer acceptance.
