Microsoft Has a New Surface Book to Take on Apple's MacBook Pro
Microsoft is launching a new version of its Surface Book, the detachable laptop-tablet hybrid it first introduced in 2015. The new model includes five times the graphics performance of its predecessor, according to Microsoft, which also claims it has twice the power of a MacBook Pro. The Surface Book 2 will be available in 13 and 15-inch configurations, with the smaller model starting at $1,499 and the larger at $2,499. The laptop runs on Intel's eighth generation processors and the company says it offers 17 hours of battery life, an improvement from the older model. Microsoft is pushing the Book 2 for gamers as well -- a crowd that Apple has never been able to capture with its own laptops.

Porsche Design reveals a Windows 2-in-1 convertible
Porsche Design had another Mobile World Congress revelation besides a limited edition version of Huawei's Watch 2. The design group has also announced a laptop-tablet convertible and detachable hybrid of its own called Book One, which looks like it was designed to rival Microsoft's Surface Book. It runs on Windows 10 Pro and is loaded with all the feature's you'd expect on a Windows hybrid: it has Cortana and facial recognition through Windows Hello. Plus, you can take notes and draw all over the tablet's touchscreen using Windows Ink. Its other specs and hardware might look familiar, because they're very similar to Surface Book's. The device's 13.3-inch display has a 3,200 x 1,800 pixel resolution, it runs on an Intel Core i7 processor, has 512GB of storage, 16 GB of RAM, two USB-C and two USB 3.0 ports. Even its pricing is pretty similar: at $2,495, it's just $100 more expensive than the cheapest configuration of Microsoft's Surface Book.

Using TensorFlow in Windows with a GPU
In case you missed it, TensorFlow is now available for Windows, as well as Mac and Linux. This was not always the case. For most of TensorFlow's first year of existence, the only means of Windows support was virtualization, typically through Docker. Even without GPU support, this is great news for me. I teach a graduate course in deep learning and dealing with students who only run Windows was always difficult.
Is it time to swap your Mac for a Windows laptop?
I've been an Apple user for over a decade, ever since I picked up a refurbished 17in PowerBook back in 2005 to replace my ailing Windows XP box. But last month, after Apple announced its most expensive new MacBook Pros in almost 15 years, I reconsidered my decision for the first time and, for the past few weeks, I've been back on a Windows PC. My first three computers were PCs, although the house I grew up in had an ailing, hated Power Mac Performa. My reasons for switching in my teens were fairly simple: I'd been playing fewer and fewer PC games, and spending increasing amounts of time using my computer to manage the music library linked to my iPod. I was one of those switchers, surprised by the elegance of Apple's music player and convinced to take the plunge into their full desktop operating system.

What OneNote's Math and Replay features say about the spotty state of Windows Ink
One of the most significant features of Windows 10's Anniversary Update was the addition of pen computing, known as Windows Ink, which we criticized as falling short of the average consumer's needs. We don't know whether any new inking features will be announced at Microsoft's Windows event on Wednesday (or the event that follows on November 2). Recently, however, we took a deeper dive into the capabilities, when we tried the new Math and Replay features within Windows 10's OneNote UWP app. Math translates and solves inked equations, while Replay records your series of ink strokes and can play them back. But the devil's in the details, and the challenges of both features show how Windows Ink is struggling with the realities of handwriting recognition and data wrangling.
What to expect from Microsoft's 'Imagine What You'll Do' event
The holiday shopping season is a mere four weeks away, which means that tech companies need to get their products out, stat. We've already seen launches from Google and Apple, but now it's time for Microsoft to unleash the gadgets you'll be lusting after this December. The rumor mill has already given us clues as to what we might see at the company's big reveal later this week (and no, a Surface Pro 5 probably isn't on the menu). We've rounded up the likeliest bets here. Have a look, pre-order some popcorn and then prepare to follow along with our liveblog as it unfolds on Wednesday.

Cortana for Android updated with 'Hey Cortana' support within the app - MSPoweruser
Cortana app for Android recently got updated in Play Store with few new improvements. Microsoft is bringing back'Hey Cortana' and you now have easier access to the voice button. Microsoft has released an update for Outlook Groups on Windows Phone. Unlike the last update, which was a major one, this one only adds bug fixes and performance improvements. Microsoft has just made it slightly easier for users to buy a new Surface device.
