AI-Based Teaching Assistant ByteLearn Raises $9.5 Mn; Comes Out Of Stealth Mode

AI-based teaching assistant startup ByteLearn has raised $9.5 Mn in its seed round and came out of its stealth mode. The platform is now open for early access, as per the startup's website. In February 2021, edtech startup Vedantu had acquired the doubt-solving platform InstaSolv to boost its test prep and K-12 tutoring verticals. Two of InstaSolv founders Aditya Singhal and Nishant Sinha took an exit and went on to build a new venture -- ByteLearn. The startup plans to use the funds for product development, global expansion and enhancing technological capabilities.

MoD unveils drone armed with twin shotguns and machine vision

The Ministry of Defence has unveiled a drone armed with twin stabilised shotguns that uses AI to identify its targets. The drone has six rotor blades and is attached with a camera to provide a live-stream of indoor conflicts to a remote solider, who fires the device's weapons. A first prototype of the metre-long machine, which is designed only for indoor combat, has been called the i9. MoD has developed the flying'armed fighter' with an undisclosed British company to deploy specifically in urban situations, such as buildings barricaded by armed personnel. MoD told MailOnline it's unable to provide photos of the prototype, as this has been developed with a UK start-up that is in negotiations around Series A funding, and is therefore in'stealth mode' or without a public profile (stock image) 'UK Strategic Command has been developing a capability under Project i9 to develop an armed urban warfare unmanned aerial system (UAS),' MoD said in a statement to MailOnline.


Silicon Takes Center Stage At The AI Hardware Summit

With the popularity of AI growing over the past few years, so too have the number of conferences either dedicated to machine learning and artificial intelligence or at least discussing the topics as a major portion of the agenda. However, the inaugural AI Hardware Summit stood out from the crowd last year. At the conference, not only did attendees hear from the major technology players, some start-ups like Habana emerged from stealth mode with innovative solutions. The second annual AI Hardware Summit presented by Kisaco Research promises more of the same. This year's conference promises to offer a wide variety of solutions for AI, not just at the chip level but also some of the supporting products and services for AI solutions.


Former NASA chief unveils 100 million neural chip maker KnuEdge

It's not all that easy to call KnuEdge a startup. Created a decade by Daniel Goldin, the former head of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, KnuEdge is only now coming out of stealth mode. It has already raised 100 million in funding to build a "neural chip" that Goldin says will make data centers more efficient in a hyperscale age. Goldin founded the San Diego, Calif.-based company with the former chief technology officer of NASA, said he believes the company's brain-like chip will be far more cost and power efficient than current chips based on the computer design popularized by computer architect John von Neumann. In von Neumann machines, memory and processor are separated and linked via a data pathway known as a bus.
