Nio EL6 Review: Price, Specs, Release Date, Battery
What if, instead of seeking out a charger and plugging in for half an hour, you could swap out your depleted EV battery for a new one in just five minutes? That's the question asked by Nio, a 7-year-old Chinese electric car company with a network of more than 1,300 battery-swap stations for doing exactly that. However, the vast majority of these stations are in China, with 100 in Shanghai alone, serving customers who mostly live in apartments and lack the space to install a charger at home. Customers buy the car but lease the battery, with the monthly fee granting them access to the swap station network. By contrast, there are currently only 27 so-called Power Swap Stations in Europe, across Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden, but more are supposedly in the pipeline.

Ford's new Edge SUV can improve traction, fuel usage using artificial intelligence
One of the new impressive features that will come along with Ford's 2019 Edge and Edge ST is the use of artificial intelligence aimed at improving traction and fuel usage in the SUV. The Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker says the Edge SUV will come with its new "all-wheel-drive disconnect" which will switch automatically between two-wheel and all-wheel-drive "in a fraction of a second." Ford says the SUV set to hit dealers later in September, will use a "form of artificial intelligence to sift through information like wheel slip, road conditions, vehicle speed, windshield wiper usage and outside temperature." As for how the Edge will be able to improve fuel usage, the automaker says it will use features such as active transmission warm-up, deceleration fuel shutoff and exhaust gas recirculation. Scott Beiring, Ford driveline applications supervisor, said in a news release that the shifting between two-wheel and all-wheel-drive "needs to be fast and seamless enough that the customer doesn't know it is happening. The 2019 Edge and Edge ST SUV will use what the automaker calls "fuzzy logic," and that it can detect the need to engage or disengage within 10 milliseconds. "Fuzzy logic refers to the algorithm," Beiring said in the release. "It's like you or I determining what to wear based on reading a weather forecast, where we're going, the time of year and looking outside.

Hisense's AI TV will make you an armchair World Cup expert
The age of the smart TV is over, says Hisense - the future of television is artificial intelligence. These next-generation sets don't just display images and play sound, but know what's actually happening on-screen and bring you into the action, starting with the 2018 FIFA World Cup. At CES Asia, China's biggest technology show, the company demonstrated its vision with an AI-powered TV that works as a virtual football pundit to help even non-fans wrap their heads around all the tournament's finer details. It includes facial recognition that identifies all of the tournament's 736 players - in both agony and ecstasy - and present full biographies, statistics and headlines plucked from recent articles. If you decide to change sides at half time, the app can even direct you to a store where you can buy a replica of a specific player's kit (though you'll need to scan a quick QR code with your smartphone to actually make the purchase).
DJI's Mavic Pro takes on GoPro's Karma with smart features
Between Oakland and San Francisco in the center of the Bay Bridge lies the 400-acre man-made Treasure Island. It's here that DJI let Engadget fly its compact Mavic Pro drone. It's DJI's first fold-up flying machine -- arriving barely a week after GoPro announced the Karma -- and it continues the company's commitment to keeping cameras in the sky. Like the GoPro Karma, the 999 Mavic Pro ( 749 without controller -- it can also be flown with a phone) is a foldable drone designed to fit in a backpack or large purse. The arms and propellers tuck in to turn Mavic into something that resembles a shoe box.
Review: DJI Phantom 4
If there's a drone that can claim ownership of consumer airspace, it's DJI's Phantom. The company's white, 4K-camera-toting quadcopter is the Prius of the skies; hip, accessible, and ubiquitous. Automated flight features make it possible to fly places and get shots previous models could not. It's harder to crash into stuff, with is safer for you and for your wallet. Insanely fast sport mode is a ton of fun.
