Addressing Noise and Stochasticity in Fraud Detection for Service Networks

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

--Fraud detection is crucial in social service networks to maintain user trust and improve service network security. Existing spectral graph-based methods address this challenge by leveraging different graph filters to capture signals with different frequencies in service networks. However, most graph filter-based methods struggle with deriving clean and discriminative graph signals. On the one hand, they overlook the noise in the information propagation process, resulting in degradation of filtering ability. On the other hand, they fail to discriminate the frequency-specific characteristics of graph signals, leading to distortion of signals fusion. T o address these issues, we develop a novel spectral graph network based on information bottleneck theory (SGNN-IB) for fraud detection in service networks. SGNN-IB splits the original graph into homophilic and heterophilic subgraphs to better capture the signals at different frequencies. For the first limitation, SGNN-IB applies information bottleneck theory to extract key characteristics of encoded representations. For the second limitation, SGNN-IB introduces prototype learning to implement signal fusion, preserving the frequency-specific characteristics of signals. Extensive experiments on three real-world datasets demonstrate that SGNN-IB outperforms state-of-the-art fraud detection methods. The rapid growth of digital service networks has transformed how services are delivered across industries, enabling seamless interactions across platforms, from financial services to e-commerce. However, this transformation has introduced new risks, particularly from sophisticated fraud schemes that undermine service quality, erode customer trust, and threaten operational stability.

Real-Time Integrated Dispatching and Idle Fleet Steering with Deep Reinforcement Learning for A Meal Delivery Platform

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

To achieve high service quality and profitability, meal delivery platforms like Uber Eats and Grubhub must strategically operate their fleets to ensure timely deliveries for current orders while mitigating the consequential impacts of suboptimal decisions that leads to courier understaffing in the future. This study set out to solve the real-time order dispatching and idle courier steering problems for a meal delivery platform by proposing a reinforcement learning (RL)-based strategic dual-control framework. To address the inherent sequential nature of these problems, we model both order dispatching and courier steering as Markov Decision Processes. Trained via a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) framework, we obtain strategic policies by leveraging the explicitly predicted demands as part of the inputs. In our dual-control framework, the dispatching and steering policies are iteratively trained in an integrated manner. These forward-looking policies can be executed in real-time and provide decisions while jointly considering the impacts on local and network levels. To enhance dispatching fairness, we propose convolutional deep Q networks to construct fair courier embeddings. To simultaneously rebalance the supply and demand within the service network, we propose to utilize mean-field approximated supply-demand knowledge to reallocate idle couriers at the local level. Utilizing the policies generated by the RL-based strategic dual-control framework, we find the delivery efficiency and fairness of workload distribution among couriers have been improved, and under-supplied conditions have been alleviated within the service network. Our study sheds light on designing an RL-based framework to enable forward-looking real-time operations for meal delivery platforms and other on-demand services.

Social Network Analysis on the Interaction and Collaboration Behavior among Web Services

AAAI Conferences

Service-Oriented Computing (SOC) has received much interest due to its potential to tackle many adaptive system architecture issues that were previously hard to overcome by other computing paradigms. However, it has been facing great difficulty in quickly discovering and dynamically combing available Web services to satisfy given request on-demand. Most of the current researches concentrated o n the semantic model for service discovery, composition, and so on. But there are few studies concerned the intrinsic pattern and law of the service interactions and relationships. To achiev e the vision of SOC in heterogeneous and open environment, in our opinion, not only the semantics of individual Web service but also the interactions and relationships among Web services are needed to be considered seriously. In this paper, beginning with combining Semantic Web and social networking technology within SOC paradigm, we study associations between Web services, mine the relationships among services to design and build Service Network (SN), anal y z e the structural and social characteristics and complexity of SN to reveal the user interests, business requests, information and data flow and direction. In short, we would like to reassess and reconsider the SOC paradigm from the network perspective, through finding new knowledge to build new theoretical basis and approach which can be used to guide and promote the service discovery, composition, and so on, in SOC paradigm.

Optimizing Service Composition Network from Social Network Analysis and User Historical Composite Services

AAAI Conferences

Service composition, which achieves the goal of value-added services, has been considered as the core technique of Service-oriented Computing (SOC). To cope with the challenge of ever-increasing number of web services, graph-based web service network has emerged as a potential solution to the state of art SOC. In such a way, composite services are constructed by applying searching algorithms to the built graph, and proved to achieve outstanding performance in complexity. However, web service network suffers two crucial disadvantages: poor connectivity and negative links, and both of them have crucial negative impact on service composition. To cope with the problems, we propose two methods in this paper. Firstly, leveraging social network analysis, we focus on enriching web service network by adding valuable services, which will play positive roles in solving poor connective problem. Secondly, we show a serious status that numerous negative links contained in the underlying networks, and then we propose to identify and remove the negative links based on users’ historical composite services.
