How Startups are Creating Disruptions Using Artificial Intelligence?
AI or Artificial Intelligence is one of the biggest technological inventions that have already impacted many businesses. The technology is continually transforming the way businesses work and deal with their customers. It would be no wonder to see AI in the list of the factors that contribute to economic growth in the future. Siri for Self-Drive Cars: Genius or Patenting the Obvious? - ExtremeTech
This project may be Apple's fallback to building its own car. From 2014 to 2019, roughly, Apple's Project Titan was a ground-up autonomous, electrified vehicle project. Apple found out that building a car is enormously complex, there are regulatory hurdles to clear far tougher than for phones or PCs, and you can't build a world-class auto factory in a couple of years. Apple also found out that not everyone wants to run a contract factory for Apple, including BMW and Daimler, and if there was an agreement, divorce court would have followed closely. Too many egos and everyone would want the final say.
Professor X readies self-drive cars for China's busy streets
Xiao Jianxiong never visited a beach until he was 18, despite the fact his childhood home was only 20 miles from the sea. His hometown of Chaoshan, in China's Guangdong Province, was a poor fishing village until recently. Growing up without much money, Xiao's family couldn't afford a car trip to the beach. Today Xiao is hopeful that his company -- AutoX -- will give kids the opportunities he didn't have by making it easier and cheaper for them to get around by car, even if their parents are not able to drive them. "Autonomous driving should not be a luxury," Xiao said in a 2017 speech when he was named one of the "35 Under 35" by the MIT Technology Review.
CES 2014: BMW shows off 'drifting' self-drive cars - BBC News
BMW has shown off self-driving cars that can "drift" around bends and slalom between cones. The modified 2-Series Coupe and 6-Series Gran Coupe are able to hurtle round a racetrack and control a power slide without any driver intervention. Using 360-degree radar, ultrasonic sensors and cameras, the cars sense and adapt to their surroundings. BMW demonstrated its latest autonomous driving technology at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. It is just one of several car manufacturers experimenting with the technology - Japan's Toyota has also been demonstrating its autonomous car at CES.
GM wants steering wheels, pedals retained in self-drive cars
DETROIT – General Motors chief executive Mary Barra came out strongly Tuesday for regulations requiring the retention of steering wheels and foot pedals in self-driving cars. As the largest U.S. automaker pushes into developing autonomous cars and trucks, Barra said keeping the vestigial appendages of traditional human-piloted vehicles is crucial for safety. "We do think we have a leadership position in autonomous," Barra said. "It is very important we demonstrate safety. We think having the steering wheel and pedals in the cars is a way to demonstrate safety."
