NASA's UFO study recruits astronaut Scott Kelly to help explain undefined aircraft in the skies

NASA has recruited the best of the best to unravel the mysteries of unexplained natural phenomena seen in the skies with the hopes of solving hundreds of sightings. Astronaut Scott Kelly, who is famously known for spending nearly a year in space, is one of 16 team members who will comb through unclassified data of UFOs to help the space agency'craft scientific conclusions' about what is actually occurring. The independent study is set to launch Monday and will carry on for the next nine months - the team is expected to share their findings with the public in mid-2023. The program, announced in June, follows the first US congressional hearings in 50 years that revealed videos showing 144 'unidentified aerial phenomena' seen by military personnel since 2004. The team, which includes scientists, data and artificial intelligence specialists and aerospace safety experts, will identify how data gathered by civilian government entities, commercial data, and data from other sources can potentially be analyzed to shed light on unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP).

In April 2018, the Nobel Prize Inspiration Initiative and 3M hosted the lecture, Climate Change: Science and Policy with Dr. Mario Molina. Molina won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his scientific discovery of the chemistry of the stratospheric ozone layer and its susceptibility to human-made activities. He co-authored research in 1974 in Nature magazine on the threat to the ozone layer from chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) gasses being used in spray cans. Molina has also served on the United States President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology from 1994 to 2000 and again in 2010-2016. "Science doesn't tell you what to do. Science isn't either good or bad so you can not give Nobel prizes in science to good people, you do that in principle for the science," said Molina.

Former NASA astronaut Scott Kelly says that he owes his storied space career to Tom Wolfe's book "The Right Stuff," which he read when he was 18. Kelly, who read the novel while studying at State University of New York Maritime College in the Bronx, admits that he was a poor student until finding inspiration in the famous book about the early U.S. space program. "It inspired me to become a fighter pilot in the Navy and, later, a test pilot, and, after that, an astronaut," he told Fox News. "It just shows that with some inspiration and some hard work you can later achieve some pretty significant things." After his selection by NASA in 1996, and over the next 20 years, Kelly served as a Space Shuttle pilot and commander and spent two stints on the International Space Station.


Jeffrey Williams breaks US record as he logs 521 days in orbit

Earlier this year, Scott Kelly launched into the record books after spending the most cumulative days in space for any US astronaut, with 520 days 10 hours and 33 minutes. But as of Wednesday, the torch has been passed to International Space Station commander Jeffrey Williams, who just logged his 521st day in orbit. Williams is the second American to break the record this past year, and he will have spent a total of 534 days away from the planet by the time he returns to Earth. A SpaceX Dragon cargo capsule splashed down in the Pacific Ocean at 2:51 p.m. EDT Wednesday, concluding a successful International Space Station resupply mission. MELBOURNE, Fla. -- A SpaceX Dragon capsule splashed down in the Pacific Ocean just before 3 p.m. ET Wednesday to wrap up a month-long visit to the International Space Station, returning to Earth with more than 3,700 pounds of equipment and science research. "The Dragon spacecraft has served us well," British astronaut Tim Peake radioed to mission controllers in Houston after the Dragon floated from the outpost in darkness at 9:19 a.m., released by its robotic arm. "It's good to see it departing full of science, and we wish it a safe recovery back to planet Earth." Among the 1,300 pounds of experiment on board were more than 1,000 tubes of blood, urine and saliva collected from former NASA astronaut Scott Kelly before his year-long ISS mission ended in March.
