scale ai project
Enterprises 'struggling' to scale AI projects - TechCentral.ie
Organisations across the world are still finding it tough to scale artificial intelligence projects throughout their entire enterprise, according to research by Capgemini. A new report by the systems integrator revealed that only 13% of companies have rolled out multiple artificial intelligence applications across numerous teams. Almost three-quarters of organisations, which encompass 950 firms with at least one billion dollars in annual revenue, have been unable to deploy a single application if they started before 2019. However, the report showed some promise for organisations who were just kicking off their AI initiatives, with those moving beyond AI pilots and proof of concepts increasing from 36% to 53% since the SI's last report in 2017. Around 13% of those featured had reached at-scale status, rolling out multiple AI applications across numerous teams.
First mover advantage will be significant for those that deploy AI at scale
ORGANIZATIONS understand the value of artificial intelligence (AI), and in the past 12 months, many, if not most, have attempted to deploy AI in one way or another. According to a recent forecast by IDC, spending on AI systems is forecasted to reach US$97.9 billion in 2023, more than 2.5 times the US$37.5 billion that is expected to be spent in 2019. IDC's analysis reveals that spending on AI systems is currently dominated by the retail and banking industries, followed by discrete manufacturing, process manufacturing, healthcare, and professional services. Of course, spending on AI is growing rapidly in the media industry as well as among federal/central governments. Despite the spending, it seems as though a majority of the organizations are running AI projects in pilots and are unable to scale them up effectively.
Could a failure to scale artificial intelligence projects spell doom in 2020?
THERE IS no technology as powerful as artificial intelligence (AI), that much is certain. In the world of business, organizations have shown faith in the technology by investing in a number of pilot projects -- but unfortunately, they have been unable to scale up those projects to unleash the full potential of AI. According to a recent survey of 1,500 c-suite executives, 75 percent said they believe they risk going out of business in 5 years if they don't scale AI. Further, 84 percent of the executives surveyed said they believe they won't achieve their growth objectives unless they deploy AI. To top it all, the survey also revealed that the few companies that actually managed to strategically scale AI projects seem to have nearly twice the success rate and three-times the return from AI investments as compared to those pursuing pilot projects in silos.
