Hacking continues to become increasingly sophisticated, and has evolved from simply hiding bugs in code. Unless properly secured, hackers are able to tamper with these systems and alter its behaviour in order to'weaponise' AI. This provides a perfect way for hackers to obtain sensitive data or corrupt systems designed to authenticate and validate users, with no easy fix should an attack be successful. Where security is considered, it is not only important to look at the aspects of a rogue AI, but also how the data sets of a system can be secured.

The possibility of man-made machines turning against their creators has become a trendy topic these days. Undoubtedly, Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics are no longer fit for purpose. For the sake of the global public good, we need something serious and more specific to safeguard our limitless ambitions - and humanity itself. Today, the internet connects more than half the world's population. And although the internet provides us with convenience and efficiency, it also brings threats. This is especially true in an age in which a good deal of our daily life is driven by big data and artificial intelligence.

There's something deeply philosophical about all that but I haven't quite figured it out yet; last I checked most people don't fear that their children might one day rise against them and throw them out. It's a common trope that pops up in anything ranging from science fiction to silicon valley coffee shops. Could it be that rogue Artificial Intelligence is using bitcoin's supercomputer network to quietly take over the world? This is one of the questions raised by a bizarre YouTube video uploaded by the UFO Today channel. The conspiracy theory video alleges that bitcoin uses the allure of money to trick people into expanding its network and processing power. Cambridge University's Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER) recently released a new Civilization 5 mod all about reducing the threat superintelligent AI can pose against mankind, The Verge reports. The creator of Unreal Engine describes his vision of the world-changing metaverse that's just 12 years away As The Verge points out, CSER was founded in 2012 to explore "various global catastrophes capable of collapsing civilization or wiping out humanity altogether." These dangers are referred to as "existential threats." One of these threats, the CSER thinks, is a superintelligent artificial intelligence system smarter than humans that ultimately chooses they aren't necessary to its system's needs. "We had the idea in the center that we wanted to do outreach for the idea of superintelligence – to get people with the right skillset interested, grow the field of people who care about AI safety, and test our own ideas," CSER postdoc researcher Shahar Avin told the outlet.

In the first of our series exploring the top 5 drivers of business disruption in 2017, we focus on the rise of Artificial Intelligence in our daily lives. High profile figures including Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk insisted that AI should be carefully contained and controlled, whilst Ray Kurzweil stated that we can, 'protect ourselves against rogue AI' by creating safeguards. Despite the negative press, the last 12 months has seen a huge increase in investment in AI. Since 2013, funding has tripled. This relentless expansion led tech giants Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Amazon and IBM to create a partnership at the end of the year, supposedly to hash out ethical concerns.

You know I have often wondered about the two different plans of existence we have here and one intruding on the other. It would not go over so well if one really did intrude upon the others territory/ dimension. We can talk about all we want to, but we can not cross over into it. And it will not cross over into where we are until time is up. Yet, if we make strides towards it and get somewhere in our striding we always get smacked down for it and smashed backwards.
