Career roadmap: Machine learning engineer

#artificialintelligence

It stands to reason, then, that machine learning engineers are in good place as far as career outlook. These professionals are sophisticated programmers who develop machines and systems that can learn and apply knowledge without specific direction, according to Study.com, an online education platform. The focus of machine learning engineers goes beyond specifically programming machines to perform specific tasks, Study.com They create programs that allow machines to take actions without being specifically directed to perform the tasks. Such an engineer might work on the development of a self-driving vehicle, for example, or program services in such a way that they can attempt to identify a specific individual's interests.

Here's how we could mine the moon for rocket fuel

MIT Technology Review

The moon is a treasure trove of valuable resources. Gold, platinum, and many rare Earth metals await extraction to be used in next-generation electronics. But there's one resource in particular that has excited scientists, rocket engineers, space agency officials, industry entrepreneurs--virtually anyone with a vested interest in making spaceflight to distant worlds more affordable. If you split water into hydrogen and oxygen, and then liquefy those constituents, you have rocket fuel. If you can stop at the moon's orbit or a lunar base to refuel, you no longer need to bring all your propellant with you as you take off, making your spacecraft significantly lighter and cheaper to launch.

Machine Learning Now the Rocket Fuel for Cyber Security

#artificialintelligence

Scanning petabytes of information to detect potential cybersecurity threats cannot be a man's task anymore. It has been quite some time since machines started to master the task. Gartner predicts that by 2025, Machine Learning will be part of every other security solution. On the other hand, around 5.99 billion malware attacks were reported in the first half of 2018 and the events that need to be handled are doubling. As per a study by Paradoxes, Inc. for Oracle only 33 % of C-Suite executives and around 20% of lawmakers have adopted AI and ML.

The Right Workforce Turns Data into Rocket Fuel for AI Projects - Dataconomy

#artificialintelligence

Breaking down the workforce options for AI developers to structure raw data for machine learning. While it may seem like artificial intelligence (AI) has hit the big time, a lot of work needs to be done before its potential really come to life. In our modern take on the 20th-century space race, AI developers are hard at work on the next big breakthrough that will solve a problem and establish their expertise in the market. It takes a lot of hard work for innovators to deliver on their vision for AI, and it's the data that serves as the lifeblood for advancement. One of the biggest challenges AI developers face today is how to process all the data that feeds into machine learning systems, a process that requires a reliable workforce with relevant domain expertise and high standards for quality.

China moves ahead with MOONBASE plans as national space agency head reveals timeline

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Construction work on a moonbase could begin within the next decade as China reveals its timeline for future missions to the lunar surface. Zhang Kejian, the administrator of the China National Space Administration (CNSA), announced the plans in a recent speech. The research facility will be located near the moon's ice-rich south pole and will be shared with multiple countries, Mr Zhang said. Ice will be needed on the moon to provide water for both human consumption and as a component for rocket fuel. The small step of a lunar base could serve not only as a platform for research but also as a refuelling station for giant leaps out into the solar system.

Nasa is building 'dust-to-thrust robots' that dig up Martian soil and convert it into ROCKET fuel

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Nasa is building robots that can dig up Martian soil and convert it into rocket fuel. The machines will strip water from the soil and convert it into methane - a compound that has been tipped to power the rockets of the future. They could solve a major problem facing Nasa's deep space plans: How to keep rockets light enough to fly while still carrying enough fuel to get to and from Mars. Nasa plans to send manned missions to Mars in the early 2030s. But before humanity takes its first step on the red planet, the space agency will send a fleet of unmanned vehicles to test the habitability of its arid, dusty surface.

NASA wants to build a moon base to make rocket fuel for trip to Mars

Daily Mail - Science & tech

As soon as next year, NASA will launch a series of robotic commercial delivery missions to the moon in preparation for an astronaut lunar base. The planned Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) missions aim to establish a'sustainable presence' on the moon, paving the way for science and technology missions and, ultimately, human exploration. According to the space agency, water ice on the lunar surface could even serve as rocket fuel, meaning the moon could become a pit stop on the way to more distant destinations. NASA says the first trips, which could begin in 2019, will deliver instruments and technology to the surface, including devices from the former Resource Prospector concept that aimed to become the first mining expedition on another world. 'We conducted a thorough science and engineering assessment of Resource Prospector and determined all four instruments are at a high technology readiness level, are appropriate for science on the moon, and will make flights on future Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) missions,' said Dennis Andrucyk, deputy associate administrator Science ission Directorate, at NASA Headquarters in Washington.

Watch This Robotic Intestine Puke Rocket Fuel

IEEE Spectrum Robotics

This is literally a robotic intestine puking rocket fuel. It's being developed in Japan, by roboticists from Chuo University and JAXA, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. You'll be relieved to learn that it's a robotic intestine puking rocket fuel with a purpose: It's designed to replicate the peristaltic motion of a real intestine in order to gently mix ingredients to make solid rocket fuel. The researchers say their machine is safer than conventional mixers because the fuel doesn't experience high shear stress inside the undulating rubber tubing and is never in contact with metal, avoiding the risk of fire and explosions. The idea is to turn the solid rocket fuel manufacturing process into a continuous operation rather than a discrete one, replacing rocket fuel mixing bowls that give you fuel in batches with a system that can just continuously pump out fuel instead.
