Sam Altman's OpenAI backing initiative headed by several anti-Trump staff pushing liberal causes

FOX News

Fox News chief national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin reports on what the US and Israel are doing to stay ahead of adversaries in AI on'Special Report.' OpenAI has partnered with a new AI initiative led by a group co-founded with outgoing Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry that has pushed left-wing causes and has several board members aligned with Democrats. OpenAI, led by CEO Sam Altman, is backing an initiative known as AI 2030, which is aimed at shaping "public dialogue about U.S. competition against China on AI," Politico reported in October. The initiative is led by the "non-partisan" think tank American Security Project (ASP), where Kerry was a founding member and served two stints on the board of directors. ASP has promoted the idea that climate change is a national security threat, and argued on its website that pulling out of the Iran Nuclear Deal was a bad idea that "harms national security."

How Data Teams Can Get Better at Meeting Deadlines

#artificialintelligence

Discover the exciting projects data scientists are spearheading in the nonprofit world. We hear a lot about the cutting-edge work data scientists produce in academia and in industry. As Madeline Lisaius' recent conversation with Elliot Gunn made abundantly clear, working at nonprofit organizations -- like the Rockefeller Foundation, where Madeline is Lead Data Scientist -- presents numerous opportunities to focus on crucial social impact and sustainability issues. Get up to speed with the latest deep learning research. A new month can only mean one thing: a new (and highly anticipated) edition of Robert Lange's handpicked academic-paper recommendations.

We're Designing a Responsible AI Future - The Rockefeller Foundation

#artificialintelligence

Artificial Intelligence ("AI") technology is transforming the way humans interact and society operates. As the development of AI accelerates, many of us see the need for a movement that ensures we harness AI's benefits and mitigate its risks. To explore these questions and start identifying solutions, The Rockefeller Foundation has designed A Month of AI in Bellagio that kicks off this week. The Bellagio Center is a remarkable conference and residency center in Italy celebrating 60 years of enabling groundbreaking ideas, partnerships, and commitments. After months of consultations with a range of experts, we have curated a month-long residency program and three week-long conferences that will bring together leading experts and innovators from technology, the public sector, social sciences, and the arts.

Just launched: USAID AI in Global Health report

#artificialintelligence

Recognising the huge potential impact of AI in global health, The Rockefeller Foundation and United States Agency for International Development's (USAID) Center for Innovation and Impact (CII) partnered, in close coordination with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, developed and launch today a groundbreaking new report: AI in Global Health: Defining a Collective Path Forward. In the past decade emerging technologies have been flooring the gas petal driving exponential innovation in almost all fields and industries. From blockchain and cryptocurrencies, to getting your groceries delivered by drone (UAVs) on your front lawn, to using artificial intelligence (AI) as a Swiss Army knife to'fix' everything, new technologies present significant potential to bring real and meaningful change, especially in healthcare. Technologies like AI are rapidly evolving, yet are still at an early-stage, which provides the development ecosystem the unique opportunity to take an active part in shaping the market to make sure new technologies are introduced and scaled effectively and appropriately. The report states it's important to acknowledge that AI is a means to an end for global health impact and not always the right or best solution for every health challenge.

Meet Africa's Inclusive AI Community Solving Global Problems - The Rockefeller Foundation

#artificialintelligence

This week more than 700 machine learning researchers from over 30 African countries will come together at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya for the third annual Deep Learning Indaba. On paper it looks a lot like other artificial intelligence (AI) convenings around the world. There are keynotes from luminaries, talks from up-and-coming researchers, and trainings on new methods. But as we've worked with the Indaba organizers to sponsor the event over the last few months, we've learned that the Indaba represents so much more: First, the Indaba is a hub and catalyst for Africa's growing AI community. At The Rockefeller Foundation, we know that supporting communities of dedicated engineers can change the world.

Thought leadership in social sector robotics

Robohub

WeRobotics Global has become a premier forum for social good robotics. The feedback featured below was unsolicited. On June 1, 2017, we convened our first, annual global event, bringing together 34 organizations to New York City (full list below) to shape the global agenda and future use of robotics in the social good sector. WeRobotics Global was kindly hosted by the Rockefeller Foundation, the first donor to support our efforts. They opened the event with welcome remarks and turned it over to Patrick Meier from WeRobotics who provided an overview of WeRobotics and the big picture context for social sector robotics.
